Rangahau Ruma

In the month of July, we embraced the winter season by celebrating Snow day. Our tamariki had lots of fun taking part in a variety of winter themed activities. They enjoyed exploring snow, engaging in imaginative play, and sharing joyful experiences with their friends. These experiences encouraged curiosity, creativity, and social interaction while celebrating the magic of winter.
As part of our winter learning, the tamariki also created beautiful stars using a range of different materials. Tamariki explored colours, textures, and shapes while developing their fine motor skills and creativity. The children were proud of their stars throughout the learning environment.
Through these experiences, nga tamariki continued to build their confidence imagination, and sense of belonging while learning through play.

The month of August was full of adventures, growth & belonging!
What a wonderful month it has been in our learning and care space! Our tamariki have been busy exploring, discovering, playing, learning and embracing new adventures each day. We love watching their curiosity shine as they develop new skills, build relationships and grow in confidence.
This month, we have said a sad goodbye to a few of our special tamariki as they have taken the exciting next step in their learning journey and transitioned into our preschool room. We wish them all the very best as they settle into their new environment, make new connections and continue to grow and flourish.
We have also celebrated some very special 2nd and 3rd birthdays! What a joy it is to celebrate these milestones and watch our tamariki grow into increasingly confident, capable and competent learners.
We have welcomed new tamariki into our learning and care space this month. We hope they soon settle and develop a strong sense of belonging, feel safe and secure within their new environment, and enjoy making the most of every opportunity to learn, explore, discover and grow.
Every day brings new possibilities, and we are so proud to be part of each child’s unique learning journey.

Hiringa Ruma

July has been a special month in the Hiringa room as we celebrated Matariki, learning about its significance for Māori and how we can celebrate it within our community. Through Matariki, ngā tamariki explored the values of reflection, gratitude, and new beginnings.

We created Matariki-inspired artwork and made a delicious vegetable soup using vegetables generously donated by our whānau. The children enjoyed preparing the vegetables together and sharing the soup and fried bread with their families. Ngā tamariki also explored our worm farm, learning about caring for Papatūānuku and the important role worms play in keeping our soil healthy.

We were also excited to take part in our first Living Eggs Project. We received 10 fertilised chicken eggs, all at 19 days of development, and carefully placed them into an incubator. Watching five chicks hatch has been an exciting experience for everyone. This project linked beautifully with Matariki, celebrating new life, growth, and new beginnings.

A highlight this month was Snow Day. Ngā tamariki arrived in their warm snow gear, ready to explore a mountain of real snow. They worked together to build snow castles, experimented with the snow's unique texture, and enjoyed a rich sensory experience. Snow Day encouraged curiosity, creativity, confidence, perseverance, and a strong sense of belonging as children learned and played together.

These experiences have provided meaningful opportunities for exploration, collaboration, and joyful learning throughout the month.

The month of August, we said a very special goodbye to Gage, Ivan, Nav and Sam, who are all getting ready to begin an exciting new chapter as they start primary school. We are so proud of how much they have grown, learned and developed during their time with us. While we will certainly miss their smiles, laughter and energy around the centre, we are excited to see all the wonderful things they will achieve at school. We wish them the very best for this exciting journey ahead!

We also had to say goodbye to our chickens. Teacher Mimi has kindly adopted them, so they are off to their new home where we know they will be very well cared for. The children have loved spending time with them, learning how to care for them. But our chicken story isn't over just yet! We are hoping to have some new eggs arriving soon, and hopefully we will see them as early as next month.

It has been a month full of goodbyes, new beginnings and plenty of excitement. We are looking forward to seeing what the coming months bring!

A look back at July & August!
The past two months have been filled with love, laughter, exploration, learning and growth. Our children have enjoyed engaging in a wide range of fun and meaningful activities, giving them opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills, build confidence and learn through play.
In July, we celebrated Matariki, creating opportunities for the children to learn about its meaning and reflect on the importance of connection, togetherness, remembrance and new beginnings.
We also celebrated some special milestones within our centre. Arav, Tasreet and Meher transitioned into our Rangahau Room, taking an exciting next step in their learning journey. We are so proud of how confidently they have embraced this new experience!
We were also delighted to welcome our new friends to the Koru Room — Jayden, William, Pavit, Rafa, Evaan and Sarah. It has been wonderful watching them settle in, explore their new environment, build relationships and become part of our JK family.
Through July and August, we have loved watching our children discover, experiment, create, connect and grow each day. Every little moment is an opportunity to learn, and we are grateful to be part of their journey as they grow and flourish together.
