Keeping our tamariki healthy, safe, and learning is a shared effort between home and school. 💙
This information is here to help whānau understand when children should stay home due to illness and when it is okay for them to attend school.
Regular attendance is important for students learning, wellbeing, and success, and we want to work together to ensure our tamariki are healthy, supported, and at school whenever possible.
If your child is going to be away from school, please notify the office as soon as possible so we know they are safe.
How to report an absence:
📞 Phone: Call us on 09 278 5231 or 0800 786 3784
💻 Online: Head to our school website and complete the online absence form.
Thank you for your support in keeping our tamariki safe!

👀 Student Challenge!
If you see Mrs Greenslade around the school, have a go at asking her:
“Kei te pēhea koe?” (How are you?)
Try using sign language or a mix of te reo Māori and NZSL and then watch carefully and see if you can understand what she is signing back!

Celebrating New Zealand Sign Language Week!
This week, we proudly celebrate New Zealand Sign Language Week. This is a time to recognise and embrace one of Aotearoa’s official languages.
At Papatoetoe South School, we are learning that communication comes in many beautiful forms. NZSL helps us connect, include, and show respect for our Deaf community. 💙
Last year, our tamariki were challenged to introduce themselves using sign language. This year, the focus will be on asking how someone is feeling and responding to this question.
We encourage our whānau to join in at home — try learning a few signs together and have some fun communicating in a new way!
Together, we can create a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
