Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs suggests humans need a strong foundation before they can truly thrive: food, sleep, safety, security, belonging, and self-worth come before purpose, fulfilment, and self-actualisation.
Many women (like me) try to build life from the top down - chasing purpose, impact, and “having it all” while ignoring exhaustion, hunger, financial stress, boundaries, relationships, or emotional safety underneath.
It fails because you can’t sustainably grow from an unstable foundation. When the lower needs are unmet, the nervous system stays in survival mode - and purpose starts to feel like pressure instead of fulfilment.
Who else has got their pyramid the wrong way round?
Little pockets of gratitude

Long post alert for all the Mums!!! This week I lost my keys and found them in my shoe. I misplaced my sunglasses… found them down the back of my shirt hours later. I went to bike my daughter to school only to remember (after thinking we had a thief!) that her bike was still at school from the week before.
It’s funny, and hopefully a bit relatable?
All these things were signs of something bigger. A fried brain! Or more aloquently put, mental overload.
A lot of women are trying to perform at an impossibly high level across every area of life. All at once. To be all things to all people.
Be an amazing mum.
Build a meaningful career.
Be present at work.
Be a great partner.
Maintain friendships.
Keep the house running.
Look after our health.
Stay emotionally available to everyone around us.
And lets do this all while we are time poor, sleep deprived and anxious ok?
We are pushing one hell of a rock uphill and eventally that bolder is going to topple us over!
Something that keeps coming back to me from my university days is Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.
We are expecting ourselves to operate at the top of the pyramid - fulfilment, purpose, impact, growth - when the foundations underneath us are unstable.
Sleep.
Rest.
Food.
Recovery.
Mental space.
These aren’t luxuries.
They’re infrastructure.
You can’t have amazing relationships, be an amazing parent and thrive at work, if you haven’t got your physiological needs met. It’s just not possible.
So maybe the answer isn’t:
“How do I fit more in?”
Maybe it’s:
“What can I let go of in this season?”
Because life moves in seasons. Some weeks your kids need more from you. Some weeks work does.
And some weeks your body simply needs rest. That’s not failure. That’s being human.
You can have it all.
Just not all at once.
So today, on Mother’s Day, maybe you ask yourself what season you are in this week? Where are you sitting on the pyramid? And what needs to be prioritised or removed so you can make your way back up the triangle?
All I can say is I’m feeling like a much better mother today. Why? I got a good night’s sleep!

After a lot of thought, I’ve decided to pause classes for a while. I think i just got excited by the requests but the truth is, I haven’t been able to properly establish a consistent yoga practice for myself yet - and I really believe you can’t teach what you’re not practising. I want to show up in a way that feels grounded, present, and authentic… and right now, I’m not quite there.
With a little one who’s still so young (and getting sick more often than I’d like), my time and energy needs to be with my family. When things feel a bit more settled and I have the space to reconnect with my own practice, I’ll be back. For anyone who has purchased credits this year, I’ll be organising refunds this week.
Thank you so much for understanding. ❤️❤️❤️

Often, what feels loud or overwhelming in our lives isn’t the real source of our discomfort. We misattribute the cause - blaming the moment, the person, the pose, the situation - when underneath it’s often something else entirely: a need to be heard, fear, uncertainty, or a lack of trust.
In our practice tomorrow, we will explore this ‘Spotlight Effect’ and the difference between what dominates our attention and what is actually happening beneath the surface. You might be surprised to find that underneath it all, your ‘problem’ is not the problem we thought it was! Oh and it’s leg day! Feel the burn 🔥
