Sometimes a change of environment makes all the difference.

Cooper came to the Y because mainstream school just wasn't the right fit. Smaller classes and one dedicated tutor meant he could actually focus and learn..

From there, things started to click. Cooper completed Level 1 and 2, got his restricted licence through our Y Drive Driving School, and is now working full-time at a contracting company.

If you're thinking about coming to the Y, Cooper's advice is simple — "Just do it."

🎨✨ Celebrating the creativity and achievements of our learners at Y Ashburton! ✨🎨

Last week, our rangatahi proudly showcased their artwork to whānau, friends, and the wider community as part of Youth Week celebrations.

This year's theme, "Our voices matter, we deserve to be heard," encouraged learners to express themselves through art, giving others the opportunity to see the world through their eyes and hear the stories they wanted to share.

With 18 incredible art entries on display and 55 attendees joining the afternoon tea event, it was a fantastic celebration of creativity, confidence, and community.

What makes this achievement even more special is that our learners organised the entire event themselves as part of their learning module, developing valuable skills in planning, budgeting, communication, and event management along the way.

We are incredibly proud of the effort, talent, and dedication shown by everyone involved. Ka mau te wehi! 💛

🌟 Celebrating two incredible students today!

This is Felicity and Ramayne, and we couldn't be more proud of them both.

Felicity joined us 20 weeks ago and has successfully completed her Foundation Skills Level 1 overcoming obstacles with resilience every step of the way. She's heading into the Te Aitarakihi programme for 10 weeks before returning to take on her Level 2. Watch this space! 🙌

Ramayne has successfully completed his Y-Goals programme after a full year with us and is also moving on to Te Aitarakihi as he looks toward employment.

We wish you both all the very best, and can't wait to hear where your journeys take you.

After attending the Y in 2024, Olly achieved NCEA Levels 1 & 2 and Foundational Skills Levels 1 & 2 supported by tutors who truly listened, understood him, and he found a place where he could thrive.

Now studying Level 4 Health and Wellbeing, Olly is driven by a deep desire to make a difference. With goals of becoming a social worker and supporting young people to succeed, he’s already giving back through his volunteering with the Red Cross.

His message to anyone thinking about coming to the Y?
“Do it. It’ll be the best thing you ever do.”

The Y provided a supportive, less stressful environment, a place where everyone’s journey is understood and where many find a true sense of belonging.

We couldn’t be prouder of the impact our students are making!
