โญ๏ธ Can you help us? โญ๏ธ

At Normandale Playcentre our tamariki love a puppet show, and weโ€™ve been lucky enough to obtain this large wooden puppet theatre. However we need to make some modifications to it before itโ€™s safe enough to have available for regular play.

We were hoping that a member of the community had some timber (measuring at least 65 x 18 mm 2.7 m) and/or four lockable caster wheels that they no longer need, that they would be kind enough to donate to us to make this happen! If so, please get in touch (you can send us a message on here, email [email protected] or pop in).

Thank you! ๐Ÿคž ๐ŸŽญ ๐Ÿซถ

We always enjoy our visits from Normandale School, and this week they came to see us again. We checked out the leavers korowai, the school tamariki knew many of the names on the ribbons and one of them had attended Normandale Playcentre during her ECE years. In a lovely tuakana-teina moment the school children helped us to set up our morning tea tables and read us a story. He tino hoa koe Normandale School!

is here!

As well as being our 85th Anniversary, this year also marks a significant milestone for NZSL: 20 years since NZSL was recognised as an official language of Aotearoa New Zealand!

New Zealand Sign Language Week is not just a celebration; itโ€™s a moment for the Deaf community to stand tall, embracing their identity and heritage. Itโ€™s a time to showcase the richness of NZSL and the diverse culture it represents.

There are heaps of online resources to learn from, including the Let's Talk booklets where you and your whฤnau can learn basic signs for everyday sitations: https://nzsignlanguage.nz/resources/lets-talk-booklets/

Every sign counts!

Our tamariki have been getting into the Christmas spirit for a few weeks now, singing Christmas Carols, wrapping โ€œpresentsโ€ and painting wooden decorations for our centre Christmas tree. We are looking forward to our whanau Christmas celebration in December and will be painting pinecones for a Christmas Display on Tuesday. ๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ
