Sister City is a network that creates partnerships between communities to promote cultural understanding and stimulate economic development.
Tempe is located in Arizona and has a population of 161,700.. Major industries include high technology, manufacturing, education, commerce and tourism. Lower Hutt City signed a Sister City agreement with Tempe in 1981 and the relationship has involved a range of exchanges. The Hutt Sister City Foundation currently runs two annual exchange programmes with Tempe:

On behalf of the Hutt Sister City Foundation this plaque was presented to our Tempe Sister City as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations. Tempe also had another award presented to them from a member of congress. We are hugely thankful to be a part of such a successful exchange programme. Here’s to many more in the future! 🤩👏🏼

We need your help! Eve (Crossman) Montavon visited Lower Hutt as part of the first student exchange group from Tempe 40 years ago and was hosted by two families - the Monks and the Ashworths. She would love to get in touch with them. If you can help, please message us so we can reconnect them.

Last friday Paul and Suzi caught up with the delegates from 2018 and 2019 for a fish and chip dinner at there home for a well needed catch up.
