Maungaraki School is a Decile 10 full primary school located on the western hills of the Hutt Valley. It serves a diverse community, which has high educational expectations and values strong school/community links. Our school’s page is about sharing news, information, successes and celebrations with our community. We hope it will also be a place where we can build our community by encouraging a positive school spirit. Maungaraki School wish to remind the community that some things are best dealt with privately.

🐝 Look who has landed! A wee while ago we shared our excitement, and now our completed Maungaraki School bee is officially on display at the Wellington Library…and it looks absolutely incredible!

Our Ponga students and local artist Rodrigo poured so much heart into this design, blending Dick Frizzell, Gordon Walters, and traditional elements into a true guardian for our community.

With the Mills Albert Bee in the City trail officially launching today (running through 8 November 2026), we want to challenge all of our whānau and friends to get out into the city, explore the trail, and see if you can track down our school’s bee! It is a fantastic way to support the Life Flight Trust.

Did you happen to spot our brilliant bee featured on Seven Sharp tonight? Let us know in the comments if you saw it on TV, or share your photos if you've already visited it at the library! 📸✨

We are excited to announce that Book Week is coming in Week 10! Our theme this year is Reading Wonderland, and we have lots of exciting activities planned to celebrate our love of books and reading.

We are very lucky to have our local author, Pearl Moon, visiting us during Book Week.

On Friday (25th September) we will finish the week with our Book Parade! Children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character and come along ready to celebrate.

Throughout the week, the library will be transformed into a Reading Wonderland, with a range of fun activities for children to enjoy each day.

Kākano has had a very busy and exciting term! We have loved learning about different pūrākau and are very excited to showcase and perform them in Week 10. We have been busy retelling different stories and experiences through our writing, working hard to develop our understanding of fractions, and getting creative through the arts.

We are very excited to announce our upcoming Arts Showcase! Our whole kura has been hard at work designing a gallery to share with you that showcases our pūrakau through both visual and wearable artwork. We invite you to visit the gallery on our opening nights in Week 10.
