Chilton's squad of student readers took part in the annual Kids' Lit Quiz Competition at Wellesley College. It tests the reading knowledge of Years 5 - 8 students across categories such as Picture Book Illustrators, Witches and Wizards and everything in between.
Our team of Sophie Denton (Year 7), Eleanor Wilkie (Year 8), Hazel Maxwell (Year 8) and Sarah-Jane Chaplin (Year 8) competed together for the second year in a row, and they quizzed like a well-oiled machine! After months of practice with their coach, Librarian Ms Taylor, Chilton finished 13th out of the 61 teams from schools across Wellington. Well done, team!

Congratulations to Sophia Turner, who was named Young Volunteer of the Year at the Hutt Valley Sports Awards last night, and Chilton Alumni Chelsey Edwards, who took home both the Sportswoman of the Year award and the Supreme Award.
The Young Volunteer of the Year award recognises Sophia’s outstanding commitment to sport and her community through powerlifting, netball officiating, and water polo. Alongside holding powerlifting records and qualifying for the World Championships in Poland, she is also a nationally recognised netball umpire, represents Hutt Water Polo, serves as Chilton’s Sports Captain, coaches multiple sports, and is currently establishing programmes for younger students.
In 2025, Chelsey became the fastest female swimmer in New Zealand history, ranked 6th in the Commonwealth for the 50m freestyle, qualified for the 2026 World Short Course Championships, and broke five New Zealand open records across the year.
An extraordinary night celebrating two remarkable athletes. We are incredibly proud to see their success recognised at this level.
