✨ What a week for flautists in NZ! ✨
In March, Teacher Elsa had a lot of exciting news to share with our music explorers! 🎶🎼
At the end of March, she joined a masterclass for NZNMS flute students, Emily Beynon visited NZ! 🇳🇿

Here are Teacher Elsa’s feelings after attending the masterclass and the concert:

“We were incredibly lucky to have Emily Beynon visit at the end of March — she gave an inspiring masterclass to NZMS flute students and performed the world premiere of Danses Concertantes, a stunning new concerto by French composer Guillaume Connesson, written especially for her! 🎶

The masterclass was such a treat — students brought a wide range of styles and repertoire, and Emily shared so many brilliant insights on tone, vibrato, breathing, alternative fingerings, and (most helpfully!) how to approach and structure your practice.

And the concerto? Absolutely incredible. ✨ Emily made even the most demanding passages sound so effortless and expressive. One of my students said, “She made the flute sound so easy like another instrument” — and honestly, I couldn’t agree more.

So grateful for such an inspiring week 💖”

Teacher Elsa selected “Under the African Sun” as the concert highlight. 🇿🇦☀️
Click the video and turn on the sound, enjoy their beautiful playing🥰

ℹ️Here is more introduction about the piece:
This piece was written by Helen Caskie who is a New Zealand composer. Under the African Sun comes from Passengers, a music theatre work by Fiona Farrell.
First produced in Palmerston North to commemorate the Suffrage Year, the play is based on the experiences of young women coming to New Zealand in the mid-nineteenth century on one of the early sailing ships.
The ship is becalmed in equatorial waters and one of the women gradually loses her mind, jumps overboard and drowns.

This time she invited Brandon to play a piano duet with her. 🎹

Last year, Brandon passed his Grade 1 exam with distinction—an incredible achievement! But he didn’t stop there.
Determined to challenge himself, he set his sights on learning the duet version of Flowers Will Bloom by Yoko Kanno.

After two months of dedicated practice, Brandon can now fluently play this duet with me! 🎶✨It’s been amazing to watch his progress and share this musical journey together.
