What a fun session we had today! Our Enviroleaders have been exploring ways we can reduce single use plastic in our daily lives. Today, they put their learning into practice by crafting their own delicious, homemade sushi! Masterchef here we come! We wrapped up the session with a discussion, not just about minimising waste, but also reflecting on where our food comes from and the positive impact of eating local produce.

This week our Enviroleaders have been busy painting birds to be used as part of the Welcome the Birds event on Sun 30 August at Waikuku Beach. This event aims to raise awareness of the many endangered birds that return each year to the Ashley Rakahuri river to nest. Feel free to pop along, show your support, and keep an eye out for our students' awesome artwork! Pest Free Waimakariri

Year 7/8 Teaching Position

Are you a passionate educator and a collaborative team player looking for a supportive, caring work environment? Then this might just be for you!!

We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate, and outstanding Year 7/8 teacher to join our team at the start of 2027.

Beyond our ‘big backyard’ rural setting, we offer a school culture where you will be genuinely valued. We want you to enjoy our school as much as we do. Our ākonga are outstanding and we have an extremely supportive community. We have an amazing Garden To Table programme where students learn to grow, harvest, prepare and share their food, and we are a very proud Green Gold Enviroschool.

If you’re ready to make a real difference and be part of a fantastic rural community, we’d love to hear from you. Please head to 'Staff Vacancies' on our website for information about the application process: https://northloburn.school.nz/a/2n1JI2i.

We had an epic day today at the Porters Pass Skifield with fifteen fantastic Year 7/8's, a bunch of awesome parent helpers and a beautiful day to boot!! Thank you to all our parent helpers for your support and encouragement. Our students were so supportive of each other and had wonderful manners throughout the day. Miss Sherriff and I thoroughly enjoyed taking them to the skifield. It really was an amazing day with lots of firsts and lots of fun had by all. A huge thank you to Miss Sherriff for organising it - twice!!

That’s a wrap! Our students had absolute blast while learning about how to stay safe in the water. From learning how to correctly fit lifejackets and practice safe entries into unknown water, to navigating seaweed mats, swimming through tunnels, and getting out of their depth. It has been a wonderful fortnight.
So much great learning, valuable life skills gained, and endless smiles all round! Big thanks to our instructors for their expertise and to NC Sports who heavily subsidises this wonderful programme for our students.

Whānau who live within our home zone should also ensure they have enrolled their children who will start school in 2027 by this date, to assist us to plan appropriately.
