It's been awhile since we last shared what we've been up to at Lincoln, but our tamariki have been as busy playing and learning as ever. Last week we went to Quail Island - the tamariki loved the trip across the harbour with Black Cat Cruises, and enjoyed a picnic and paddling on the island before another exciting trip home on the boat. Thanks to all the staff and crew at Black Cat who helped us have such an amazing adventure.

💛💜 Rolling into day 2 of Messy Play Week and our tamariki had a ball with this messy play experience!💜💛

💛💜 We had a smashing good time with ice and a fossil dig for our first day of messy play week 💜💛

💛💜Messy play week 21st-25th August 💜💛

✨Last week we started our lead up to Matariki by focusing on the stars of Waitī and Waitā, the stars connected to fresh water and salt water sources, and all the creatures and plants that live in them. Our tamariki enjoyed some water play, using a limited amount of water to be mindful of water sustainability and looking after this resource.✨

It's Playcentre Open Week! If you are curious about Playcentre this is a great week to come along and check out what Playcentre is all about. Give us a call or a message to let us know you're coming along so we can make sure we're within our maximum headcount.

💜💛 Today we put on our high vis vests and walked down the road to visit Lincoln Fire Station. The amazing volunteer firefighters showed us all the tools they use to help us, keep us and our community safe, and how to keep ourselves safe too! Thanks Lincoln Volunteer Fire Brigade! Our tamariki loved exploring the hoses, engines, and learning about the work you do 💛💜

🦋 Caterpillars munched our swan plants clean and our tamariki have been finding their chrysalises in all sorts of funny places. We have been watching the chrysalises change colour and eagerly waiting for the butterflies to emerge. We missed one coming out today, but it was sunning its wings on the tree - hopefully we see the next one! 🦋

💜 💛We came back from holidays to a garden brimming with produce, thanks to the care from some of our parents over the break. Today we added a few extra veges to tomatoes and silverbeet we harvested, and our tamariki made pasta sauce to eat with centre-grown spaghetti squash and pasta. Yum! Such a valuable learning opportunity for children to see food grow, help cook it, then enjoy the delicious results 💛💜

💜💛Nothing like toasting your own marshmallow in the sandpit to finish out a year of Playcentre. Mr. 4 made sure we had all the safety precautions in place. See you in 2023! 💛💜

💛💜We had a wonderful time at our end-of-year celebration for Lincoln Playcentre. Fairy Keren worked magic with face paint and a huge shout out goes to Mitre 10 MEGA Hornby who donated the use of their amazing bouncy castle - the children loved it!💜💛

💛💜 Only a few weeks of term 4 left! Our tamariki are looking forward to celebrating together as we wrap up the 2022 Playcentre year. First step - Christmas tree! 💜💛

💜💛 Lots of tamariki in the sandpit today developing their coordination, imagination and negotiation skills. Mr 3 and Miss 4 told me they were 'busy at work' in their construction site. 💛💜

Little scientists in the making - these tamariki were very excited about the bubbles they could create with vinegar and baking soda.

💜💛 Our AGM is coming up. See below for details 💛💜

💜💛 It was a Pajama and Pancakes day at Lincoln today. Our children and adults have some pretty snazzy pajamas! Our older tamariki enjoyed making the pancake batter, adding cracking eggs and flipping pancakes to their well established cooking skills. The results were delicious! 💛💜

💜💛 We've enjoyed putting the spotlight on messy play this week. It's an essential part of how our tamariki learn and explore at Playcentre, and they've loved it💛💜

💜💛Next week is Messy Play Week at all Playcentres around NZ. Come and join us to explore:
Monday: Slime and goop to pour and scoop!
Tuesday: Break the ice on your Playcentre journey with some ice and water play
Thursday: We love getting messy in the kitchen, join us for some cooking deliciousness. 💛💜

With all the wet weather we've had lately we've been inside a lot and there's been an interest in working with clay.
Clay is fantastic for strengthening muscles in the hands and connecting to sensory exploration, not to mention creativity. We're looking forward to seeing what our tamariki produce as they get more familiar with the properties of this material 💛💜

✨⭐Our favorite celebration on the calendar: Matariki! We love to come together as old whānau and new to celebrate, remember the year and those who have passed and think about our aspirations for the coming year. ⭐✨

It's Autumn! Which at Lincoln Playcentre means big piles of wonderful, scrunchy, leafy, sensory fun.

At Playcentre we get to draw on the wide expertise of the adults involved, and doing real work on session is great learning for the tamariki. The tamariki were very interested in operating a sewing machine and Miss 5 produced a beautiful quilt to wrap her soft toy friends in.

Ngā mihi o Te Rā Māmā!
Happy Mother's Day to all mums, but especially to the mothers of Lincoln Playcentre. You make Playcentre a wonderful place for our tamariki.

'What are these called?'
'They're called teeth. Isn't funny that saws have teeth just like people and animals. If a saw was an animal I wonder what animal it would be?'
'An elephant?'
'Really? Why's that?'
'Because this bit is all grey and curvy like on an elephant'

Children's imaginations are amazing! Posing questions brings out some fantastic observations, and gives us an insight into how they think.

We are excited to be back for term 2 at Lincoln Playcentre and we're glad to have some beautiful sunshine to enjoy our outdoor space.

We have lots of great resources at Playcentre, but sometimes a low tech solution is the best one. A suspended bottle with a watering attachment made the perfect source of running water without wasting it by running a hose or tap. The tamariki loved it!

Wow, there is a lot of steps to make hot cross buns, with lots of waiting in between. Our tamariki thought it was definitely worth the effort. Delicious!

Our Story

Lincoln Playcentre is a parent-run cooperative offering an Early Childhood Education option where parents get to stay and play, supporting their child’s learning each session.

Parents work together, with the support of a qualified facilitator, to run sessions where kids are free to choose what they want to do. Whether that’s painting, play-dough, baking, dress ups, role play, digging in the sand pit, water play, climbing, puzzles, gardening or science experiments, us adults follow their lead.

Our kids have fun, learn great skills and build strong friendships with other children and adults.

Our parents get to meet and connect with other parents, be supported in their parenting journey and watch their child grow as they play, explore and interact with others.
