Pradeep Wimalasiri, PhD student at the Department of Wine, Food and Molecular Bioscience is the successful recipient of the North Canterbury Wine Growers Association (NCWG) Award 2021. Pradeep is working with Drs Bin Tian, Roland Harrison, Ivan Donaldson (Pegasus Bay), and Belinda Kemp (Brock University) investigating the whole bunch fermentation and the use of grape stem in Pinot noir production. The 3MT (three minute thesis) is an academic competition that challenges PhD students to describe their research within three minutes to a non-specialist audience. In her 3MT presentation, Minoo Mohajer a PhD student at the CVO explained how leaf removal as a key management strategy could regulate vine production, alter yield components, and affect the grape and wine quality. Minoo has won the 3MT competition at Lincoln University and has made it to the semi-finals of the Virtual Asia-Pacific 3MTcompetition. Well done Minoo!
