Taitoko Kindergarten High Quality Early Childhood Education Our hours of operation are Monday to Friday 8.45 - 2.45. Our teachers are all 100% Early childhood qualified.

About us:

Our curriculum at Taitoko offers unique learning opportunities for your child in our whānau based environment where tamariki attend from ages 0-5 years. Staying with your tamaiti is important to us, so at anytime you are welcome to do so, joining in with the learning, the fun or just a cuppa and a chat. What’s currently happening at our Kindergarten:

To honour the Te Tiriti o Waitang

i and the partnership with our whānau, we are currently on a journey of increasing the use of te reo Māori spoken within our centre, with the vision of becoming a bilingual kindergarten in the near future. We are proud of our vision and the mahi we are currently undergoing in implementing tikanga values and te reo Māori into our daily practices with the tamariki. What else we offer:

ALL children qualify for 20 free hours as we want to make ECE affordable and accessible to all whānau. We are a full year kindergarten which means we are open in the school holidays, closing only for one week in July and the standard public holidays. We are a kindergarten that is part of the Whanau Manaaki o Tararua kindergarten Association. Whanau Manaaki is "not for profit", Government funded organisation, who support Kindergartens in the following regions, Wairarapa, Hutt Valley, Wellington, Porirua, Kapiti coast, Horowhenua, Whanganui, and Central Plateau. Kai/lunches: We are currently supplying all food free of charge to our tamariki. Our kaimahi, cook healthy meals at lunch alongside morning tea and afternoon tea of fruit and scones or pikelets. We are a “Nut Free” zone. Water is available to the children throughout the session so we ask you not to send drinks along. We look forward to meeting you and your tamariki/ tamaiti

Kotahi te kākano,

he nui ngā hua o te rākau. A tree comes from one seed but bears many fruit. This whakataukī emphasises that in our commonality we are all different. In early learning we celebrate those differences while maintaining our relationship with each other.

🔨 Learning from our real-life experiences! 🪚✨

I’m sure you’ve all noticed the roofers busy working at kindy this week, the tamariki have been fascinated by all the tools, sounds and activity happening around them! We’ve been chatting about what the roofers are doing, wondering how things work and sharing lots of ideas.

Today we extended this interest into our play by introducing hammers, screwdrivers, screws and other carpentry resources. 🔧 The tamariki eagerly got to work — hammering, twisting, building, problem-solving and creating their own projects!

And of course, once they had the tools out, our bikes needed some attention too! The tamariki took their bikes over to the work area and pretended to fix and repair them, just like the real tradespeople they’ve been watching all week.

It’s wonderful to see how everyday experiences can spark such rich learning, imagination and meaningful conversations. 😀✨

Kumusta pamilya
This week we are celebrating Buwan ng wika - Filipino language week. We are so lucky to have whaea Josie sharing with us her culture. Tamariki have been learning Filipino songs, about the national flag, how to say hello and count to 10 in Filipino.

The proposed changes to funding within Early Childhood Education (ECE) will have a wide-reaching effect on everyone who accesses ECE or works as a qualified registered teacher, especially those working in not-for-profit centers (such as kindergartens) or those who actively and intentional hire 100% qualified teachers.

What is clear is that education is not valued in the right way by the current government, with special focus on changing the ECE landscape despite research that supports just how vital education in the early years is!

The impact of these proposed changes will have a substantial effect on the fully qualified with bachelor's degrees, fully registered teachers, some of us may lose our jobs - especially if they remove the funding provided for 100% qualified teachers, others could be paid minimum wage with the removal of ALL pay parity (so not just pay parity between private and public ECE, but the pay parity that Kindergarten has with primary).

We have a world leading ECE Curriculum, yet it feels that we’re not worthy of being called teachers, our bachelor's degrees are not held in high regard, and we can simply be replaced by the untrained, unqualified and inexperienced

This government believes that your children, your grandchildren, your great grandchildren and your mokopuna are not worthy of qualified teachers, or of sufficient funding to do our jobs. This government and the funding review are not even looking at the mass amounts of profit that are being made by large private ECE companies in this country.

We love our jobs! We love TEACHING your tamariki, supporting & helping them grow into strong capable learners but if this government is elected again, it is highly possible that all of this will change, and quickly too.

You and your tamariki matter to us, and because of this we strongly encourage you to enrol to vote (and please vote), ask questions and talk to people about the impact this could have on your whānau and the people that matter to you.

🤔️ Are you enrolled to vote in this years election on Nov 7th ? If you don't know it doesn't hurt to enrol again to be sure. Quick and simple, we have forms or do it online.

This morning, we celebrated Whaea Maria's birthday with a surprise party. We all gathered inside, eagerly waiting for her arrival. As soon as she walked in, we jumped out and shouted, "Surprise!".
Happy 50th Birthday Whaea Maria! Thank you for all the aroha, kindness and laughter you bring to our kindergarten each day. We are so lucky to have you as part of our whānau, and we hope you have a fantastic year ahead filled with happiness and special memories.
Did you really think you could let such a milestone birthday sneak by without a celebration? We wouldn't let that happen! 🎂 🥳 🎉
