Horowhenua College is a co-educational school in Levin, New Zealand of over 650 students. Established in 1940, it is the longest established and largest of the four colleges in the Horowhenua area. The College provides for students from Years 9 to 13 and has a wide curriculum aimed at meeting the needs of every student. e's co-curricular programme is very strong. Levin is a rural town with a population of approximately 16,000. The town is divided into two sections by the main trunk railway line and State Highway 1. The catchment area of the school is bounded to the west by the Tasman Sea and to the east by the Tararuas. The northern boundary is generally accepted to be the Manawatu River and Shannon town, with Ohau and Manakau to the south.

Hockey 1st XI Girls - Tournament Week.

Horowhenua College is wishing our 1st XI Girls Hockey team all the best and safe travels as they head away today for Winter Tournament Week in Napier. The team will proudly represent Horowhenua College and aim to repeat last year's Tournament Week win at the Evelin Hanker Memorial Secondary School Championship, with their first game tomorrow morning.

The team will proudly represent Horowhenua College at the Malcolm Cowie Tournament Secondary School Championship, with their first game tomorrow morning.

We have two more fantastic students off overseas representing New Zealand in sport.

Te Hokotuku Gardiner-Hokianga is heading to the Muay Thai World Championship in Kosovo as part of the Aotearoa/New Zealand Black Gloves team.

Māiā Cornell is on her way to the Pickleball World Cup in Da Nang, Vietnam This tournament is expected to attract over 4000 participants from 80 countries.

Last week the Y13 PE students had the opportunity to experience a variety of different physical activities; Reformer Pilates at Studio Rubix, Cloud9 tramp park, a session at Crossfit MANA, High Ropes at Adrenalin Forest and the Te Onepoto walking track.

The purpose of these experiences was to encourage students to challenge their ideas around what physical activity is, and to inspire them to continue to be active once they leave school.

Kia ora koutou

This morning our Science Technician discovered a flask of chemical material which was identified as being potentially unstable. After further investigation it was decided to phone emergency services who responded with very quick and expert support. A number of fire engines attended as well as ambulance and police. The work of removing the material was undertaken by the professionals. It was exploded on our back field at approximately 3pm. Under supervision of the experts all of our students and staff were safe.

Our thanks goes to all of the support services for their work in removing this hazard.
