At Timatanga Hou Kindergarten we embrace the kaupapa of whakawhanaungatanga, a whānau based approach, where we develop respectful, welcoming relationships with children, whānau and the wider community. Our environment shows manaakitanga, where children feel safe and nurtured, where they can build relationships, independence, be accepted for who they are and become confident competent learners. O

ut Kindergarten is licensed for infants, toddlers and young children, operating 49 weeks of the year. We operate as a full day model, and
whānau choose the session times which best suits their needs. Our routine is flexible allowing us to work intuitively with children to ensure we meet their individual needs.

You all made such a great team! A huge thank you to Courtney and whānau for the digger!! It made the 2nd half easier. We will all sleep well tonight and our tamariki will get a big surprise on monday!

Earlier this month Jody, our very talented itinerant kaiako, started to paint a manaia on the door at the front of our kindergarten and get our tamariki involved. They helped Jody carry the paints she needed to the back gate and enjoyed painting their interpretation of manaia on a beautiful sunny day.

A manaia is a messenger and spiritual kaitiaki, guardian, of the sky, earth and sea.

When tamariki are encouraged and provided with the opportunities to be involved, while having the freedom to express themselves their self-esteem is nurtured as well as being able to try out their ideas and what they are capable of.

Our tamariki worked together to create this tapa. We talked about the different meanings of the patterns, such as the manulua which represents two pairs of bird wings, or two birds and has the additional meaning of two groups or two families joining together. Much like us whānau!

Great start to celebrating Tongan language week. Our tamariki enjoyed learning about tonga 🇹🇴 through writing (discovering the Tongan alphabet and having a go and writing the letters), mahi toi 🎨 waiata, and dancing and music 🎶. While I was only able to capture our tamariki engaged in art, I hope you enjoy the photos.

Great to see the sun 🌞 came out for Fantastic Friday! Our tamariki made the most of the warmer weather and spent a large amount of time outdoors playing duck duck goose, 🦆🦆🪿 making volcanoes 🌋 and exploring what they could make and do with clouddoh. Painting 🎨 inside was a hit with our tamariki choosing to incorporate the stencils, creating their own mahi toi. Their creative thinking, communication skills, social skills and problem solving skills came in handy as they negotiated, took turns, engaged in kōrero, and creativity throughout their day.

We hope you like your gifts 🎁 yesterday whānau!! Our tamariki were very excited to make presents for their whānau.
I wonder what was in them?

Our tamariki work with and alongside each other with support from our kaiako Tessa to problem solve, and ask for help to create and wrap presents. During this experience we could hear the rich langauge and kōrero as our tamariki talked with each other about what wrapping paper and boxes they were going to use.

Whānau we hope it was something you always wanted :)
