Do you have any sports uniform items that may be lingering at home? We are aware that, now and then, items may not make it back to school.
We are in the process of stocktaking our sport uniforms. So, should there be any item at home, be it from this year or past, tracksuits or gear, could you please return it to school. Items can be dropped off at the school office - kind of an amnesty of sorts.
We would just like to have all our kit back, please. As an extra incentive we are offering a cash prize of $200! Anyone who returns gear by 22nd March goes in the draw.

🔥 📣 HEAD OF SPORTS ANNOUNCEMENT 2025 📣 🔥

Congratulations to AJ Talai and Megan Armstrong who were recently selected to be Waiopehu College - Head of Sports 2025 🥳

This joint role will see Megan and AJ have a major say on how they, from a student led perspective, would like to see sports run during the 2025 year. They will help coordinate big school events such as swimming sports, athletics day, cross country, sports exchanges, weekly sports games and sports awards night, as well as having weekly meetings with our Director of Sport where their role will see them take part in various weekly sports objectives 🙂

Both Megan and AJ play various sports for Waiopehu College so have a first hand experience in what the students wants and needs are when it comes to playing sport!

Looking forward to having you both on board for 2025, keep an eye out in the new year where both Megan and AJ will start their official duties with a huge school competition give away!

HEAD OF SPORTS 2024 - Signing Out

Congratulations to Gracie Tabram and Samuela Taufe'ulungaki who finished up their duties today as Waiopehu College Head of Sports 2024.

This joint role has seen both Sam and Gracie have a major say and influence on how sport was delivered and run in 2024. Their responsibilities included coordinating big school events such as Cross Country and Athletics Day, Inglewood and Te PaePae O Aotea Sport Exchanges, Annuals Week, Tournament Weeks and Sports Awards Night, as well as all day to day sports games/trainings.

Both Gracie and Sam have left our sports in a wonderful place and we officially say goodbye today to two of our best Heads of Sport! You have both put in countless hours during and after school to ensure that everyone participating in sports has had the best experience possible in 2024. Simply put, without you both this year, we wouldn't have been able to do half the things we did! From me, thank you both for everything, I have no doubt that if you show the same passion and dedication you did to your role this year, you’ll succeed in anything you want to do.

We are all wishing you the best in whatever comes next Gracie and Samuela, thank you again for everything :)

COMPETITION TIME

As our 2024 Head of Sport Gracie and Sam officially sign off today from their duties, they are running one final competition!

All you have to do is guess which ball is covering the original ball in the photo attached from our 2024 Female General Sporting Excellence - Mele Fa'ave.

To go into the draw, simply pick what number ball you believe the actual volleyball being served is behind and make sure you LIKE this page. Maximum 1 entry per Facebook account, please COMMENT with what ball you think is the winner. Winners will pick up a Waiopehu College Limited Edition Bucket Hat. We have 3 hats to give away to 3 chances of winning!

Entries close Wednesday 3pm and the winner will be notified on this page.

🔥 $50 Sport Season Pass Here to Stay - Sustainable Sport for All in 2025🔥

Off the back of our successful 2023 'Golden Jubilee Free Sport' and our 2024 '$50 Sport Season Pass Initiatives', we are delighted to confirm that for 2025, we are committed to offer ALL SCHOOL SPORTS* for a one off, $50 fee! It doesn't matter if you play one sport or ten, the cost remains $50!!!

Our 2023 statistics showed an incredible rise in sport participation and those statistics were repeated again in 2024, which has shown the value in keeping sport affordable for all! These statistics alone were the main reason our board continued to back the $50 season pass in 2025, as we know if we remove financial barriers, students are more likely to participate in their sports or even give a new sport a go.

Director of Sport, Matthew 'Goody' Good had this to share; "I am delighted to be able to continue this brilliant initiative for Waiopehu College and I thank the board for their backing yet again. Keeping sport affordable at school level is essential in keeping our rangatahi active and engaged in and out of the classroom. As costs rise in every aspect of life, we have all felt the pinch over the last few years so to be able to continue this initiative, I hope brings welcome relief to all our students and their whanau."

Affordable sport has allowed our students to opt into extra co-curricular activities which has seen our sports teams flourish in 2024! We are Youth Premier 1 Champions in Basketball and Rugby as well as having our social girls basketballers and youth footballers come away with titles in a brilliant year for sport! We have 3 students who have represented New Zealand on the world stage this year as well as having a great number of first timers give a new sport a go like badminton, cricket and volleyball! This $50 Sport Season Pass caters for all students whether socially or competitively!

We know the huge health and wellbeing benefits sport provides our teenagers and with this news, we are hopeful this will encourage our students to keep participating in organised sports for Waiopehu College.

We can't wait to get up and running and look forward to seeing you take the field/court or pitch in our colours in 2025 🙂

Waiopehu latest National Champion - Anahera Easton Rising with the Phoenix

Year 10 football star Anahera Easton has recently become a National U18 Champion after the Wellington Phoenix Academy won the Girls Youth National League over the weekend!

After being brought up into the Phoenix Youth League team from her U16 squad, Anahera has spent her weekends flying around the country to play the top girls teams in New Zealand. Her strong performances in these matches have seen Anahera secure a spot in the Wellington Phoenix Girls U18 squad for next year despite still being an U16 player.

Anahera's rise into the Phoenix has been extraordinary as she has worked her way up the age groups in double quick time to firmly establish herself as one of the most exciting young footballing talents in New Zealand! Yet another milestone achieved and she's not finished yet!

Massive congratulations Anahera, keep up the excellent work!

Signing Day for Superstar Baseballer Flynn Warren

A huge congratulations to our 2024 Head Boy, Flynn Warren, who completed signing day over the weekend and with that, the next stop on his baseball sporting adventure is Hawaii Pacific University!

Flynn will start his journey to Honolulu in August 2025 after agreeing a full scholarship with the university! Flynn has had another standout year in baseball which has seen him become a double national champion as well as being selected for New Zealand U23's!

From everyone at Waiopehu College, congratulations Flynn, we look forward to watching your journey continue!

Fletcher Warren is Headed to the World Cup!

Baseball star, Fletcher Warren, has been selected to be part of the New Zealand U18 Baseball Squad, a great reward for what was an outstanding 2023/24 season for him!

Throughout the off-season, Fletcher has participated in numerous camps with this squad, all leading up to final selection in the reduced 20 man roster to compete in a World Cup qualifier series in December. Fletcher worked very hard on gaining selection, working through some challenging moments as he rehabilitated from an injury sustained in August.

The hard work has paid off, with Fletcher this week successful in being named in the final roster for the New Zealand U18 team. This team will travel to Sydney in a few weeks and compete for a spot at the 2025 U18 World Cup. They will play in a 5-game series against a strong Australian side.

This is a fantastic result for our Dux nominee Fletcher, and a good reward for his dedication and focus as a Student-Athlete.

Courtney Fitzgibbon - CHAMPION FEMALE STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE YEAR 2024

Last night, the Manawatū region’s finest young student athletes and leaders were celebrated at the Steve's Tyre Service Manawatū Secondary School Sport Champions 2024 event, held at the Palmy Conference + Function Centre.

The awards, which honour achievements in sports across Palmerston North, Manawatū, Tararua, and Horowhenua, celebrated over 75 nominees whose dedication and skill have brought pride to their communities.

With so many talented students across a variety of sport, it is an unbelievable achievement by our 2024 Dux Ludorum Winner to come out on top yet again!

Courtney, you absolutely deserve every award that has come your way in the last 3 weeks! It’s the daily double fitness sessions, the eating plans, the sleep cycles and everything inbetween that has got you to where you are! You have always been a champion in our eyes, it’s just fantastic to see you getting the accolades you deserve on our biggest stages!

Courtney Fitzgibbon - CHAMPION FEMALE STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE YEAR 2024
