Betty Montford Kindergarten High Quality Early Childhood Education We have a large purpose built building, an extensive playground, and are well resourced with quality equipment.

Older children and their families have the opportunity to participate in Kapa Haka sessions. We also have a well established transitional programme in place with North School New Entrance Classes. Every Wednesday we either visit them or they come and visit us. Children have many challenges to enable them to develop their physical skills and we regularly use the school field for games.

At Betty Montford Kindergarten, we design learning experiences that inspire creativity while nurturing an understanding of sustainability. Recently, tamariki have been creating beautiful playdough gardens using recycled yoghurt and fruit pottles, along with repurposed playdough that would otherwise be discarded.
The process is just as valuable as the finished creation. As children carefully select and arrange foliage, flowers, and natural treasures, they are developing fine motor skills, creativity, decision-making, and an appreciation for the natural world. Each garden becomes a unique expression of their ideas and imagination.
What makes these creations even more special is the sense of pride and ownership tamariki feel. Their excitement is evident as they admire their colourful gardens and eagerly take them home to share with their whānau.

Our tamariki reminded us that some of the most valuable learning resources are often the simplest. With a collection of cardboard boxes and their incredible imaginations, they transformed ordinary materials into cars, houses, boats, shops, rocket ships, and so much more!
Open-ended resources like cardboard boxes have no limits. They can become anything a child wants them to be, encouraging creativity, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration. As children explore and create, they are making decisions, testing ideas, and developing their own theories about how things work.
šŸŒ± Te Whāriki - Exploration | Mana AotÅ«roa highlights the importance of children learning through active exploration of their environment. Through open-ended play, children gain confidence in their ability to investigate, imagine, and make sense of the world around them. They learn that their ideas are valued and that there is more than one way to solve a problem.

Today we were gifted a koruru carved and designed in collaboration by Kaiako Jody and Rua one of our whanau. Today it was blessed and unveiled. This represents the manaakitanga and mahi of Kaiako towards tamariki. The name gifted of the koruru is Piki te Aroha.
