Kumeroa-Hopelands School is a rural primary school situated 10 minutes from Woodville and approximately 30 minutes from Palmerston North. The school was formed after an education area review resulted in the amalgamation of Kumeroa and Hopelands Schools in 1994 and the merger with Kohinui School in 2008. We are a full primary, decile 5 school with a role between 40 and 60 students.

Sunday night jobs as a small school Principal. Sewing the arm back onto a special bunny, belonging to one of my 6 year old friends.

Tonight I feel reminded that sometimes it is those smallest stitches that hold the big things together. And that even more often, those small stitches ARE the big things, because they remind our children that we see them, and that we care . . . ๐Ÿ’š

Calf Club and Paddock to Plate 2026 has arrived!

This is a very well anticipated date in the calendar at Kumeroa School. Tony and Rachel have the calves ready to go, and there was much excitement as the students headed down to the farm this afternoon to select their calves ๐Ÿ„

Meanwhile, the Paddock to Plate crew had a feast afternoon whilst tracking food miles, having found foods from 24 different countries in one single shopping bag! ๐Ÿ›

Agri learning is ready to go at Kumeroa for 2026 and it looks like it is going to be EPIC!

Croc pot Monday today ๐Ÿฒ

Leftover pumpkins from our Matariki celebration were prepped into a hearty winter soup for our tamariki to enjoy for lunch. Thanks to Sara for today's culinary delights!

Doubled with fresh homemade bread rolls ๐Ÿž ensured tummies were filled and warm before heading out for lunchtime play under the winter sun!

A croc pot lunch is a regular Monday option at Kumeroa. Another example of how the family environment is nurtured and enjoyed by Team Kumeroa ๐Ÿ’š

An EPIC day for our senior leaders at National Young Leaders Day 2026.

A lunchtime 'Meet and Greet' with William Pike was a special motivator for their ongoing William Pike Challenge community service and passion project hours, too!

Our Native Bush classroom is a place where we work hard to 'Uncover' the curriculum, not just 'Cover' it.

Can you spot our avid photographer Ryan in the first pic? Ryan's keen interest is being inspired 2 afternoons a week, in the classroom that enables his own passion to GROW authentically.

The curriculum expects students to use:
"imagination, observation, lived experience, and appropriate artist models to support and develop visual ideas."

The native bush provides a pretty incredible backdrop to provide rich opportunity for students to Uncover the curriculum, and for their teachers to do so alongside them, too.

Ryan's fire photo (featured here from a selection of many others too) is pretty special indeed and certainly shows the deep observation of Ryan's lived experience ๐Ÿ”ฅ

One example of the learning unfolding, and curriculum being UNcovered at our Papatลซฤnuku sessions, two afternoons per week, in our Native Bush classroom.

We finished the week by wishing Miss Grace good luck at her upcoming placement at Pahiatua School as part of her ongoing Teacher Training.

Grace has been doing incredible things at Kumeroa School over the past two years, whilst studying to become a fully fledged teacher. The Kumeroa kids had some sound advice to give as she heads off on her block placement at Pahiatua. A selection of the advice, below:

๐Ÿ’š Don't dance (mentioned many times!)
๐Ÿ’š Don't 'throw anyone in a bush' (IYKYK ๐Ÿ˜‚)
๐Ÿ’š Don't biff the shoes off the deck if they're in the classroom doorway!

And in contrast to all the above ๐Ÿ˜‰ . . .

๐Ÿ’š Be yourself

Grace's questionable dancing, support of additional needs, hunger to learn and incredible team ethic is an absolute joy.

Have fun Gracey! See you in the final week of term!
