2026 Far North Young Artists Show – Ara
Join us for the opening of the 2026 Far North Young Artists Show – Ara at the Turner Centre on Tuesday 1 September, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. On opening night, visitors will have the chance to cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award.
We warmly invite whānau, friends, and the wider community to come along, celebrate creativity, and support our talented young artists.
The exhibition showcases artwork from schools across the Far North and will run throughout September. For opening hours and to confirm access to the Theatre Bar during your visit, please contact the Turner Centre on (09) 407 0260.

Congratulations to Y13 students Roberta Pawa and Whitiora Brady-Brown, whose photographs have been selected for the 2026 Ringa Toi Exhibition at PĀTAKA Art + Museum. This annual exhibition showcases the artwork of secondary school students, with a focus on Toi Māori and Pacific Arts at Excellence level.

Jock Hodgson Rotary Speech Competition 🎤
What an outstanding evening of public speaking at the Jock Hodgson Rotary Speech Competition at Kerikeri High School on Thursday evening!
Head Prefects Molly Para and Joe Jackson warmly welcomed Rotarians, parents, teachers and students before introducing the finalists. Each finalist had previously won their year-level speech competition, making for an impressive evening of thought-provoking and engaging speeches.
🏆 The finalists and their topics were:
- Year 7 – Isabelle Moir: War’s Effect on Children
- Year 8 – Georgia Kitchingman: Climate Change
- Year 9 – Kiki Shimozono-Reid: Jealousy
- Year 10 – Felix Lawson: Why Failing is the Path to Success
- Year 11 – Tara Perry: Succeeding at the Wrong Thing
- Year 12 – Isaac Sharp: Social Division
- Year 13 – Craig Wilson: Looking Up
While the judges deliberated, Tegan Kana entertained everyone with three beautiful pieces on the keyboard.
A huge thank you to our judges — Jo Wood, Mike Clent and Amanda Wharton — for giving their time and expertise to this important event.
👏 Congratulations to the winners of the Jock Hodgson Memorial Trophy: Tara Perry and Kiki Shimozono-Reid!
Congratulations to all seven finalists for their confidence, preparation and outstanding speaking skills. It was wonderful to see such talented young people sharing their ideas and perspectives with the school and wider community.

Thank you to the Hospitality Department at Kerikeri High School for providing 24 Rotarians and six teachers with an outstanding three-course meal on Thursday evening.

The senior students showcased the impressive skills they are developing under the guidance of Chef Neil and Chef Noel. A special thank you also goes to the students who provided table service throughout the evening. They were a wonderful group of young people who represented the school with enthusiasm, professionalism and warmth.

It was a fantastic evening, and we greatly appreciated the time, effort and care that went into making it so special.

It was with pleasure that the Rotary Club of Kerikeri last night honoured Kate Crawford with a Paul Harris Fellowship. Kate has given many years of service to Kerikeri High School, running the SAVE (Saving All Valuable Environments) group within the school. Earlier this year, with the support of the Rotary Club, the SAVE Club became the basis of the KKHS Interact Club.

Congratulations, and thank you to Kate for the wonderful service she gives to the school and the community.
