Our dedicated Art Room at Aurea Newlands is a space where creativity comes to life.

Gathered around our round tables, children will explore a wide variety of arts and crafts, experimenting with different materials, colours, and techniques. From painting and drawing to cutting, gluing, and creating, every activity encourages imagination, self-expression, and confidence.

Art is an opportunity to develop fine motor skills, problem-solving, creativity, and the joy of bringing ideas to life.

We can't wait to see all the wonderful masterpieces our tamariki will create here. 💛

✨ Honouring Te Whānau o Matariki ✨

Matariki marks the Māori New Year and is a special time to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future with hope.

The Matariki star cluster is made up of nine stars, each with its own meaning and connection to the natural world, our environment, and our wellbeing. Together, they remind us of the importance of whānau, caring for one another, and our relationship with the world around us.

At Aurea Preschool & Nursery, we embrace opportunities to learn about Aotearoa New Zealand's rich cultural heritage through meaningful, age-appropriate experiences. By exploring traditions like Matariki, we help our tamariki develop a sense of belonging, respect, and appreciation for the diverse cultures that make our community so special.

✨ Celebrating Matariki ✨

This week, our tamariki have been celebrating Matariki through creative activities, including colouring, creating, and decorating their own stars.

These hands-on experiences help children learn about the significance of Matariki while encouraging creativity, imagination, and fine motor skills.

Learning is at its best when children are engaged, inspired, and having fun.

Every Golden Beginning starts with meaningful connections. Each morning, we come together in small groups, giving every child the opportunity to participate and learn.

During experiences like gardening, our teachers take the time to listen, encourage curiosity, and create meaningful conversations that extend learning.

As our tamariki care for the plants they've grown, they're developing patience, responsibility, teamwork, and understanding of how living things grow.

Adventure builds confidence!

Our playground in Newlands is a place where tamariki climb, balance, jump, explore, and grow, Through play they're developing strength, coordination, resilience, and problem-solving skills.

With the support of our caring teachers, children are given the freedom to explore at their own pace in a safe and nurturing environment.

Passionate about Early Childhood Education and children's development, Megan brings 24 years of experience and has been part of the Aurea journey since the beginning.

With her experience, warmth and dedication, she’s excited to welcome families to Aurea Newlands and create meaningful relationships with children as they begin their learning journey.
