URGENT – KĀWHIA SCHOOL CLOSING NOW

Unfortunately, the school currently has no water supply, and at this stage we do not know what has caused the outage or when it will be restored.

As we cannot safely operate the school without running water and toilet facilities, we need to close the school immediately for the remainder of today.

Please arrange to collect your tamariki as soon as possible. Bus will run as soon as we can get hold of parents

We apologise for the short notice and inconvenience. We will keep whānau updated as soon as we know more.

As a Mitey school we are proud to support Mitey in its goal to reach even more schools across Aotearoa. Mitey is calling on schools and tamariki across Aotearoa to get behind the Mitey Drive for Five.

Tamariki can register to fundraise for Mitey and if they raise $50 or more, they could win a spot on the field at Eden Park for the Mitey Match — Mitey's world record-breaking attempt at the Bledisloe Cup® curtain raiser on 10 October. At least 521 kids will take to the field alongside famous faces for one unforgettable match - and no rugby experience is needed. Tamariki can register to fundraise on www.miteydriveforfive.co.nz.

Also closer to the holidays you might want to let your community know that they can attend community events during the school holidays if they’d like an additional chance to go in the draw to win - we’re travelling the country with Sir John Kirwan & the Bledisloe Cup in the first week of the school holidays. Details are on the Drive For Five website -https://www.miteydriveforfive.co.nz/community-events

If you know of any local sports clubs that might be interested as well, we’d love it if you could forward this information on to them. Let’s spread the word!

COMING TO KĀWHIA SCHOOL next WEDNESDAY, 9th September
Kia ora Kawhia Whanau, my name is Skyla. I’m part of the Waikids children’s ear clinic team providing care to tamariki around the Waikato.

The Waikids children’s free ear service is coming to Kawhia on Wednesday the 9th of September. The clinic will be open between 830 and 130pm.

Our service operates out of the caravan

The Mobile Ear Clinic is a free service for children and teenagers from six months to 18 years of age 🙂 While there are drop-in clinics some weeks, the service is transitioning.

The clinic functions as a drop in service, no appointment is required. Any tamariki aged between 6 months and 18 years can come in for a free ear check. If you have any concerns about your child’s hearing or general ear health, come on in.

The service provides assessment for:

glue ear assessment and management
ear wax removal
removal of foreign object from the ear
grommet checks
treatment of discharging ears.
All tamariki must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, otherwise a consent form must be completed (available at school office)

They say it takes a village to raise a child — and we were incredibly blessed to take our school village with us to the snow.

Our trip was made possible by the amazing support of our whānau, staff and adult helpers who walked alongside our tamariki, encouraged them, kept them safe and helped create some very special memories.

There was plenty of laughter, learning, new experiences and manaakitanga along the way. We are so grateful to everyone who gave their time and energy to make this experience possible for our tamariki.
