Bay of Islands College is now closed for the Term 1 holiday break. School will start again on Monday 20th April Day 1 of Term 2.

School will remain closed for students today Friday 27 March due the number of students and staff who are affected by flooding. There will be grounds staff, and a few office staff onsite for most of the day. Ring the front office if you need assistance.

The 51st Te Tai Tokerau Secondary Schools Kapa Haka Festival is next week. Kaitaia College is hosting this kaupapa with an 8am powhiri on Tuesday 31 March followed by two days of performances.
Te Roopu o Peowhairangi performs on Wednesday 1 April at 10:30am. The bus will be leaving BOIC at 9am sharp on Tuesday morning and returning by 3pm on Wednesday.

School is closed today Thursday 26 March due to the severe weather conditons. Kia noho haumaru koutou. Be safe out there!

Honey for Sale at Bay of Islands College

This has been an exciting and fun part of the Agriculture program that we offer here at school where students get to help and learn about Beekeeping, the honey industry and has been harvested and processed by hand, by our Agriculture students. We now have honey for sale at the schools main office.

- 500 gram Honey Jars are available for purchase for $12 each
- Honey Comb containers are also available for purchase for $12 each - limited supply

There will be a maximum purchase of 5 jars per person initially to ensure availability to all community members.

Your purchase is greatly appreciated and all proceeds from the sales goes directly back into our Agriculture budget to help fund future initiatives in AgHort as well as funding our ongoing Beekeeping costs.

WST Conferences – Friday 20 March LAST CALL

Thank you to those who have already made appointments to meet with your child and their Whānau Teacher this Friday 20 March. These conversations are important to understand progress and to put plans in place for success.

Please note, this is the only day we will be holding whole-school Whānau-Student-Teacher (WST) Conferences. We ask that whānau make this a priority. We are only asking for 20 minutes of your time to work together for your child. As this event has been advertised for over a month and teachers have multiple commitments, alternative meetings or follow-up phone calls will not be available.

If you have not yet made a booking, please contact the kura as soon as possible to arrange a time. Bookings can be made through the school office or by emailing the teacher directly.

We ask that you make every effort to attend. Your presence matters. When kura and whānau work together, we see the greatest impact on student success.

There’s been a lot happening with the Fire and Emergency (FES) class this term. We’ve now worked through all the core foundations, including hose running, water supply, and the wider range of equipment used in firefighting.
We have two Watches-BRAVO (blue) and YANKEE (yellow)-and within those, two crews each (Bravo 1 & 2, Yankee 1 & 2). This has been great for building teamwork, leadership, and a bit of healthy competition.

We have been out and about around the school grounds running quick drill challenges. These have been going really well, and we’re building on them each week with more complex scenarios, which the students are really engaging with.

We’re also hoping to organise a vehicle extrication session in the near future.

Another exciting opportunity we’re working towards is attending the ANZAC Parade alongside Arataki this year.

Our Firewise Team has been re-established for the year. Their first school visit this semester is Kawakawa Primary, and from there we’re planning to expand further across the region. A really exciting point of difference is that this programme is being delivered by our cadets, something that appears to be a first of its kind nationally

The National Commander for FENZ, along with members of the National Board and Advisory Group, are travelling to Kawakawa next week for a briefing on what we’re doing differently, which is pretty special and a great acknowledgement of the partnership happening here.

WST Whanau Student Conference Day Reminder
A reminder of our WST Conference Day this Friday 20th March for all students and whanau to meet with their whanau teachers.
We will be selling hot beverages and slices and cakes on this day from 8am to 3pm.

Our talented floristry course students are busy at kura again today, creating beautiful bunches of fresh flowers.
These beautiful bunches will be available to buy again from the schools main office from 1.30 today. Be in quick to get yours.
The funds from the sales will go towards buying resources for more awesome creations by the floristry class. $15 per bunch

We are holding a M***i Day this Friday 13th March for all Bay of Islands College students. This is a fundraising event for KidsCan NZ. Students can wear m***i clothes on this day, neat and tidy in appearance. No Gumboots. All students wearing m***i are to bring $2 towards this very worthy cause.
KidsCan supply our school with black shoes and socks, scroggin and muesli bars.
