For a number of years now, Matahui School has proudly participated in the Tūmanako Project. This is much more than an art exhibition; it is an opportunity for our students to reflect on the importance of peace, kindness, compassion, and hope.
The values that sit at the heart of Tūmanako align closely with the values we strive to nurture every day at Matahui School. We believe education is about more than academic achievement. It is about growing young people who are kind, caring, respectful, and empathetic human beings who understand the impact their actions can have on others.
This week marks the anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Although these events occurred more than 80 years ago, their effects continue to be felt by survivors, their families, and communities today. As we also witness conflict and war in different parts of our world, these anniversaries remind us that peace can never be taken for granted.
The Tūmanako Project provides our students with the opportunity to learn from history while looking towards the future with hope. It encourages them to consider how they can contribute to a more peaceful world through acts of kindness, understanding, acceptance, and inclusion.
We are incredibly proud of the thoughtful work our students have created. Their participation reflects not only their creativity but also their growing understanding that every individual has the ability to make a positive difference. By remembering the past, we inspire our children to build a future where peace, respect, and compassion are at the centre of our communities.
The childrens art work is on display at the Katikati and will be there for 2 weeks. Jeff Brown, our local internationally acclaimed photographer, has captured some images from our Forest School programme, photos will be for sale.
