Smart Start Commonwealth Games: Celebrating Our Multicultural Tamariki!

Kia ora , What an incredible week we have had at Smart Start Preschool! Over the past week, our amazing tamariki proudly took part in our very own Smart Start Commonwealth Games.Our little athletes dove headfirst into a variety of exciting sporting challenges.
Each activity was designed to encourage cooperation, perseverance, and the classic Kiwi attitude of giving everything a go! Through these shared play experiences, our children didn't just practice physical skills—they truly embraced our core values of respect, inclusion, and community.As a bicultural preschool, this event was also a wonderful opportunity to recognize and weave our bicultural identity into our play.
We wrapped up our exciting week with a celebratory medal ceremony, ensuring every single child was celebrated for their unique participation, effort, and achievements. The grounds were filled with beautiful smiles, encouraging words, and immense moments of pride.
A huge thank you goes out to our incredible teaching team for putting together such a memorable, high-energy event. Most importantly, a massive thank you to our wonderful tamariki for showing such enthusiasm, kindness, and team spirit throughout the games. We are so incredibly proud of you all!

Our tamariki had lots of fun exploring our fidget board! They were curious as they opened and closed latches, turned locks, moved chains, pressed switches, and explored different parts of the board.

These hands-on experiences support fine motor development, hand-eye coordination, problem-solving, concentration, and independence. It has been wonderful to see our tamariki learning through play while building confidence and having fun. 🌟👐

Celebrating Matariki Together

Our tamariki have thoroughly enjoyed celebrating Matariki through a variety of engaging, creative activities.
Here is a glimpse into how our learning community marked this special time of year.

Star Art: Children crafted beautiful artwork by colouring star-shaped cardboard and decorating them with vibrant, sparkly paper.

Music & Movement: We shared wonderful moments singing traditional Matariki action songs, blending cultural learning with music.
Creative Exploration: Coloring detailed star pictures allowed the children to explore the significance of the cluster at their own pace.

Matariki continues to provide our community with invaluable opportunities for creativity, cultural connection, and togetherness.
