住台灣的中國人跟他們心愛的祖國裡的中國人，已經是不同類，他們心裡很清楚，所以，沒幾個人願意回去認祖歸宗。

Chinese people living in Taiwan and the Chinese people in their beloved homeland have already become two different groups; they know it deep in their hearts, so few are willing to go back to acknowledge their roots.

因為支持台灣獨立，雪梨大學同學，早期的台北朋友，慢慢地遠離。最近更發現，以前學校的同事，大多是遜尼派穆斯林，也幾乎不再聯絡。成年人的世界，都已定型，價值觀和信念，不再輕易動搖，隔閡因此產生。我並不是支持什葉派，我支持的是民主及自由，反對草菅人命的政府。

Because I support Taiwan independence, my University of Sydney classmates and my early Taipei friends have gradually drifted apart. Recently I’ve also found that most of my former school colleagues are Sunni Muslims, and we hardly stay in touch anymore. In the adult world, people have formed fixed beliefs; values and convictions don’t easily waver, which creates distance. I’m not backing Shi’a Islam; I support democracy and freedom, and I oppose governments that treat human life as expendable.

新年以來Line通話常中斷，我和妹妹被迫改用WhatsApp，確實沒問題了。用Safari上臉書，也時常跳頁，只好去找Apple Store求救，工作人員建議我用Chrome試試看，果真沒問題了，但他提醒，安全性沒有Safari高，還好我的臉書是對外公開，沒什麼大秘密。澳洲網上詐騙沒有台灣厲害，基本上也交過學費，免疫了。

Since the New Year, LINE calls have been dropping frequently, so my sister and I switched to WhatsApp, and it’s been fine since. Facebook on Safari would also jump between pages, so I had to visit the Apple Store for help. The staff suggested trying Chrome, which fixed things, though they warned that Chrome isn’t as secure as Safari. Fortunately, my Facebook is public, so there aren’t any big secrets. Online scams in Australia aren’t as bad as in Taiwan; I’ve basically learned my lesson and am more immune to them now.

兩邊的版本，牛馬不相及，兩條平行線，真的很無言。最近上蔣市長的平台，回應他的文告，看到這些像鴉片一樣的言論，跟迷信和巫術差不多。

Both sides' versions are completely unrelated—like two parallel lines that never meet; I am truly at a loss for words. Recently, I posted on Mayor Chiang's platform to respond to his statement, and I saw these o***m-like remarks, nearly indistinguishable from superstition and witchcraft.

很多人喜歡談主權，外人不應干涉，讓我想到，鄰居家暴，我們難道也說那是人家的家務事嗎？當然，川普承認，他是為自己國家的利益，不會虛偽的用一帶一路當做糖衣。

Many people like to talk about sovereignty, that outsiders should not interfere. This makes me think of a neighbor's domestic violence—should we also say that is someone else's business? Of course, Trump admitted that he acts for the interests of his own country, and he would not hypocritically use the Belt and Road as a sugar-coated veneer.

每次在更衣室，停車場，東西方父母最明顯的行為，尤其是母親，幾乎扮演的角色像傭人，從頭到尾，跟前跟後。幫孩子提東西，穿衣服，收拾裝備。有些孩子都已經中小學了，當然，她們在學校沒有這種對待，因此，完全是父母的問題。這種愛的方式，到她們老了，當然會指望孩子們回饋，代溝因此產生，她們不喜歡孩子與外族通婚，這是一個關鍵因素，孩子們在外的行為，有時候更叛逆，只是不在父母面前為之。

Every time in the changing rooms and parking lots, the most conspicuous behavior of parents from East and West, especially mothers, is almost as if they play the role of a servant, from head to tail. They help the child carry things, dress, and pack equipment. Some children are already in elementary or middle school; of course, they do not receive this treatment at school, so it is completely a problem of the parents. This way of loving, when they grow old, of course they will expect their children to reciprocate, and generation gaps thus arise. They do not like their children marrying outsiders; this is a key factor. The children's behaviour outside can sometimes be even more rebellious, just not in front of the parents.

當然，川普助了一臂之力，但舊勢力不會那麼容易投降，這是裡應外合的成果，尤其長年組織的外掛力量的反撲，中東的動亂還會持續好一段時間。Kevin還是難得有笑容，國內物價，生活物資，貨幣貶值，已經完全失控，尤其是德黑蘭的水資源，掐住了人民生活的動脈，這些都是視屏上看不到的真實狀況。

The unrest in the Middle East will continue for quite some time. Kevin still rarely smiles. 很多資深的民進黨員也是早期國民黨扶植起來的，這是一種食物鏈，蔡英文就是一個最典型的例子。一旦面對，他們的一生會瓦解，太多既得利益者在當權。

Many veteran DPP members were also cultivated by the KMT in the early days; it is a kind of food chain, and Tsai Ing-wen is the most typical example. Once they have to face it, their whole lives will collapse; there are too many vested-interest groups in power.

看到一些人興高采烈地參加桃園的燈會，享受228長週末，心中五味雜陳，執政者的漠視淡化，明目張膽，無恥之尤。

Seeing some people happily taking part in the Taoyuan Lantern Festival and enjoying the 228 long weekend, I feel a jumble of emotions; the ruling authorities’ indifference and dilution are open and brazen—shamelessness of the most shameless kind.
