FYI, if you are travelling on our far north roads, adhere to the speed limit and help keep our roads safe 🥰

We’ve activated the average speed safety cameras on Kaitaia–Awaroa Road, west of Kaitaia.

Average speed safety cameras work by measuring how long it takes you to travel between 2 cameras along a road.

• We set 2 or more cameras on a stretch of road, some distance apart.
• When you pass the first camera it records the time.
• When you pass the second camera it records the time again.
• We calculate how long it took you to travel between the cameras (your average speed).

Expect to be fined if your average speed is over the speed limit – in other words, if you’ve travelled between the cameras too quickly.

There are signs installed before the cameras so you know when they’re ahead, giving you time to check you’re travelling at a legal speed.

Exceeding the speed limit is illegal. Our aim is to reduce the number of people travelling over the speed limit and lessen the likelihood of a serious or fatal crash. If you travel at or below the speed limit you won’t be fined.

Here’s a map of where the 2 cameras are: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1K3BdAr21j/

Our website has a lot of information about the cameras, including their locations, so you know what to expect:
