Quiet focus, steady hands and the simple pleasure of cooking together.

Our classes are all about slowing down, learning by doing and finding confidence and creativity in the kitchen — one ingredient, one technique, one shared moment at a time.

Five years ago today, Hapuku Kitchen opened its doors for the very first time — launching with a spirited evening hosted by the local Gin Club, thanks to Monique Stevenson. 🍸✨

What began as a small gathering of locals sharing good food, good gin and plenty of laughter has grown into five years of unforgettable classes, foraging adventures, shared meals and friendships made around the table.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us, cooked with us and believed in what we’re creating here in Kaikōura. Here’s to the past five years — and all the delicious moments still to come. ❤️

One of our favourite plants in the garden - Pachystegia rufa (Marlborough rock daisy). Its soft rust-coloured hairs on the underside of leaves and stems are unique and it has a textural quality that draws you in. This rare, endemic plant of the Marlborough region reminds us of the deep connection between land, place and identity.

To us at Hapuku Kitchen, growing and caring for plants like this mirrors our wider commitment: honouring native flora, respecting the land — and embracing a deeper understanding of the natural world.

Quiet moments in the garden — where guests slow down, breathe and gather the ingredients that will soon become their meal.

These simple acts of picking, noticing and connecting are at the heart of everything we do at Hapuku Kitchen. A reminder that good food begins long before it reaches the plate. 🌿✨

From near and far, the love of good food brings everyone together!

Here’s a peek at one of our recent classes, with a lovely couple from North Carolina, another from San Francisco and of course, some familiar local faces joining the fun.

No matter where you’re from, there’s always a seat at our table.

Tucked into the branches of one of our pōhutukawa, we found this - an expertly built nest holding a clutch of tiny eggs. A quiet reminder of how much life unfolds around us when we pause long enough to notice.

Moments like these make our gardens feel even more magical.
