On Sunday we walked beneath the canopy of two mighty rākau — Tōtara and Tī Kōuka — learning their stories, uses, and healing power.

These taonga are part of the whakapapa of this whenua, treasured in Kāi Tahu tradition for their strength, sustenance, and medicine.

We walked gently, we breathed deeply, we reconnected 🌱

🌿 8 Week Weaving Workshop – New Start Date 🌿

Kia ora e te whānau,

Our next 8 week weaving class will now be starting next week, giving a little extra time for anyone who’s been thinking about joining us to get signed up.

This series is perfect for anyone wanting to deepen their skills, connect with others, and take time each week to create something beautiful with their hands. All levels of experience are welcome — from beginners to those looking to build on what they already know.

There are still a few spaces available, so if you’ve been on the fence, now’s the time to jump in! 💚

We’ve got a beautiful line-up of weaving workshops ahead — from earrings and baskets to a contemporary tukutuku and our special 8-week weaving course beginning Thursday 16 October.

Whether you’re picking up raranga for the first time or returning to continue your journey, our space is welcoming, relaxed, and full of aroha. Come along, learn at your own pace, and create something truly meaningful.

This is a space to slow down, connect, and learn the beautiful art of raranga together.

🌸 You’ll be guided step by step, no experience needed — just bring your open heart and hands ready to weave.
🌱 We’ll share not only the techniques, but also the kōrero and tikanga that sit behind this taonga practice.
🤎 It’s about weaving more than harakeke — it’s about weaving people, stories, and connections.

Last night I was happy to meet a lovely group of ladys at a workshop at the art centre. Each person made a harakeke wall hanging and each one was different. Beautiful 🌙 night
