This is great news!!! Finally the government are acknowledging that a ratio of 1 kaiako to 5 pēpi (child under 2), is not quality care & neither is having only 50% of kaiako qualified.
Here at Honeybeez we have always had a ratio of 1 kaiako to 3 pēpi, 2 kaiako to a max of 7 pēpi. It wasn’t and still isn’t a legal requirement but to give our precious pēpi the love and attention required for them to thrive it is essential - something we won’t back down on.
When looking for a centre for your tamaiti always be sure to ask what the ratio of kaiako to tamariki is & what the % of qualified staff is - this is the key to measuring quality 😉
