Kia ora dear Island Bay Playcentre community, past and present 🌻☀️

We've been offered a fundraising opportunity to run a water station on the next Wellington Marathon, Sunday 28th June.

Together with another Playcentre, we need to provide 30 adults to set up, hand out water and drinks to marathon runners and pack it down again.

So we are here checking if there’d be enough willingness from our families to get 15 people to join us?

This would mean for our Playcentre:
- needing to collect the containers for the water, tables and other equipment on the Friday before the marathon from the stadium in two utes/trucks/trailers
- and do the shift of 15 people on Sunday 28th 6am-1pm

We are reaching out to see if we can find those 15 people among our extended community.
At the moment we are 4 families being able for the entire shift and then around 6 people able to do part of it.

It would mean so mich to us to be able to raise this funds and support our center!

Please let PM us I'd you are keen and willing to suppprt this fundraising so we can respond to the organisers soon.

It's Messy Play Week at Playcentre, 2 to 5 March!

Messy Play provides new experiences, encourages communication and physical development and fuels creativity - linking to Te Whāriki, the early childhood curriculum that we follow. And of course, messy play is fun for both tamariki and adults!

At Island Bay Playcentre we use paint, playdough, sand, clay, gloop and other material to create exciting play adventures!

Wine and cheese night tonight at Kilbirnie The Children's Bookshop - come down for a lovely evening of hearing about new books, meeting old friends and new.
A part of all sales will feed into some great new books for our centre.
Doors open at 7pm and final sales by 9pm. If you can't make it tonight, but do still need some books for Christmas, mention us when you do pop in this week as all sales count towards the final tally.

Our Annual General Meeting will be held Tuesday 17th October at 7:30pm at Island Bay Playcentre, 158 The Parade.

It is a chance to celebrate the last year and plan for the year ahead! If you would like to attend please RSVP.

Today we were lucky enough to have an excursion to St. Hilda's church to see the organ being restored and repaired. Many thanks to the organ specialist who explained things so well to us! After that we returned to centre to get stuck into play - including potion making 🙂

It’s messy play week next week! Messy play has lots of benefits for tamariki (children), including engaging their senses and encouraging their creativity through it’s open ended-ness. Playcentre offers a place to do this which is not at your own house!
