Initially the school name was Invercargill Grammar, it then changed to Invercargill Central and then to Invercargill Middle School, representing the Middle of town. The name “Te Kura o Te Puna Wai Ora” was given to our school by kaumatua Riki Cherrington. It comes from the fresh water spring that runs under the area around our school. The people used to stop here to rest on their travels between nga wahi pounamu and nga motu titi. The name also refers to education and the water of life and our children as the future.

What an amazing afternoon year 5-6 had at Newsport today.

We had a group at Ki o rahi, cricket and table tennis. Students get an opportunity to try out a range of different sports during Newsport time.

What an awesome day at Polyfest yesterday for our kapa haka rōpū! Our tamariki represented Te Puna Wai Ora with so much mana, pride and confidence, and we could not be prouder of them. They absolutely shone on stage! 🌟

A huge mihi to all of our whānau for your tautoko - helping our tamariki prepare, encouraging them, coming along to support, and standing behind our rōpū throughout this kaupapa. We are so grateful.

✨ And just like that, Maths Week has come to an end! ✨
It has been wonderful to see our tamariki so invested and excited about our Pom Pom Estimation Challenge throughout the week! 🧮🔢 From carefully counting, estimating and discussing their strategies, everyone has had so much fun putting their mathematical thinking to the test.
Today at assembly, we finally revealed the actual number of pom poms in each jar! 🫣
🏆 Junior School: Room 4 had the closest guess — well done, Room 4! 🎉
🏆 Senior School: Room 8 and Room 6 had guessed the same number and were both closest, which meant we needed a Maths Week battle-off! ⚔️➗
And the winner was… ROOM 8! 🎉 They managed to guess the exact number of pom poms in the jar! 🤯👏 Way to go, Room 8!
Both classes were absolutely stoked to celebrate their success with ice blocks this afternoon! 🍦😋
