We are so blessed to have a local artist create this taonga especially for us.
Te Puna o te Ako (The source of learning) created by Taine Duthie.
At the centre is the kaiako (teacher), represented by the whale tail.
At the foundation are the three kete of knowledge, representing Ako, the knowledge that supports learning and the reciprocal nature of learning and teaching.
From these emerge the ngaru (waves) moving outward, representing kaitiakitanga and the continuing effect that the children's learning and actions can have on the world around them.
The koru at the base of the ngaru representing the tauira (students), who grow under the guidance and care of their Kaiako.
The whare surrounds them, providing shelter, safety, hospitality and manaakitanga.
The mangōpare connects the composition, representing the strength of relationships and whanaungatanga.
The composition as a whole tells a story of knowledge being received, relationships being formed, children growing, and learning flowing outward into the world.
