Kia ora e te Whanau,

Today the St Patrick's School Board has joined over 1000 other Boards from across the country by standing up against the governments move to make giving effect to the Treaty of Waitangi optional for schools.

Please see the letter attached that has been sent to the Minister of Education, Erica Stanford.

We are proudly a Te Pōhā school. 😊

Tēnā koutou e te whānau

Te Pōhā Mātauraka o Murihiku is a rūnaka-led education initiative, created in partnership by Awarua, Waihōpai and Ōraka Aparima Rūnaka. Through this kaupapa we, the rūnaka, and the Te Pōhā team work together to provide authentic, accurate and culturally grounded resources to kura , supporting the preservation and growth of mātauraka Māori across Murihiku. 2025 saw Te Pōhā delivering to approx 80 teachers among 21 Murihiku schools and we are excited about what this means for the future of education in our rohe of Awarua, Waihōpai and Oraka Aparima.

To find out more about the kaupapa, see their website; www.tepoha.nz

🎶 Out of School Music Concert Band Visit 🎶

Today the Out of School Music Classes Concert Band came to perform for us! They taught us about the four sections of the band and played some fun songs like Spongebob Squarepants, Trombone Rag, Never Gonna Give You Up, Crocodile Rock, and Sweet Caroline.

The children loved singing along, and some even got the chance to join in on percussion instruments! It was extra special to see some of our past St Patrick’s students — Kaitelyn, Jayden, and Kizziah — performing in the band.

A huge thank you to the Concert Band for sharing their music with us today! 🎵

Lovely to have some of our tamariki representing the Parish when Hato Hone St John Invercargill upgraded the defib at the Church

So cool to meet Emilene, Addisyn, Thea & Fletcher 😊 Pupils from St Patrick's School who accepted a brand new defib gifted from the ILT Foundation and situated in a 24/7 accessible lockbox at St Patrick's Church, located right beside their school 💛 This is just one of the sites in the HHStJ & ILTF AED Project that is receiving a new Powerbeat defib and it comes with a 'show and tell' video screen - very awesome and we are so thankful for this ongoing grant funding 👌 Also a little funny chatting with the children and when asked what number do you call in an emergency? Replies of 3 x 111 and 1 x 911 (too much American TV) 😂 However, please know that if 911 is called in New Zealand, it still goes through to the right place 👍

Kia ora e te Whanau

Just a quick note to let you know that Mrs Hape, our Junior syndicate leader/teacher, has accepted a new position as a Special Education Advisor at the Ministry of Education starting in late August of this year. We congratulate her on this exciting appointment and thank her for 14 years of wonderful service to our St Patrick's community. We will have time next term to acknowledge her contribution to our kura and to say goodbye.

Have a great holiday break,
