The 2026 Otago Southland Brass Band Provincial Contest was a great weekend of music, and we were incredibly proud to see so many OSMC kaiako, ākonga, whānau and alumni involved across both the Ascot Park Hotel Brass Band and Ascot Park Hotel Development Brass Band.

These bands are a fantastic reflection of the musical community that surrounds OSMC – with current students, tutors, former students, parents and experienced musicians, all sharing their skills, supporting one another and creating opportunities for the next generation.

Super proud of the incredible ākonga who gave up their Sunday to share their talent, energy and enthusiasm with tamariki and their teddy bears at the recent Teddy’s Day Out! 🧸🧡

Held at Invercargill City Central, this community event was a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Southland Hospital, raising an incredible $12,000+! 🙌

It was a day filled with so many highlights - duets, solos, and the excitement of seeing someone play their first note on an instrument that they had never seen before! 🎶✨

A huge thank you to all of our amazing ākonga, to kaiako Bridget Balloch, and to all the whānau who helped make it possible for us to be part of the day.

And a massive thank you to everyone behind the scenes who brought the community together for such a fantastic event.

We can’t wait to do it all again next year! 🧸🎶

🧸We're taking part in Teddy's Day Out at Invercargill Central!

If your teddy is keen to try out a new musical instrument, we'd love to see you!

Our wonderful OSMC students are excited and ready to help tamariki and their favourite furry friends have a go on a wide range of musical instruments. It's a fantastic opportunity to explore, make some music, and discover just how much fun learning an instrument can be!

Bring your teddy along and join us. There are so many other adventures for tamarki and their teddy's too - pampering, adventures, activities and special treats too.

📅 Sunday, 9 August: 10am – 4pm
📍 Invercargill Central

Don't forget to stop by the Teddy Registration Hub near the Esk Eats Food Court before beginning your adventure!

💛 Registration is just $5 per teddy, with 100% of registration fees donated to Ronald McDonald House South Island.

See you there! 💛

OSMC is fundraising to buy a 5 octave marimba! These stunning instruments cost over $40,000 so it’s going to be a big mission. To support our efforts we are going to have a grocery hamper raffle which will be drawn on the day of our Mid-Year Concert.
We are asking each family to donate a grocery item to the raffle. We will also be selling tickets at the OSMC office each Saturday ($2 each, or 3 for $5) and on the door for the concert.
Please drop off your grocery items to the office 🙂 Thank you so much for your support!
