We’re Hiring: Early Childhood Kaiako (Qualified or Unqualified)

Blue Duck Waihōpai – Invercargill 167 Bill Richardson Drive.

Full-time | Monday–Friday (rostered between 7:15am–5:45pm)
Possibility of a part time role as well as a Full time role depending on the applicant.

We’re looking for a warm, caring Kaiako to join our over-2s teaching team.

If you love working with tamariki and value calm, nurturing relationships, you’ll feel at home here. At Blue Duck, we provide a gentle, unhurried environment where children are supported to explore through curiosity, test their working theories, and take risks at their own pace. We also value strong community connections and meaningful local curriculum experiences.

As we count down to Stags Day and the start of the rugby season, our tamariki at Blue Duck proudly showed their Southland spirit by dressing up in the Stags’ colours of maroon and gold. It was wonderful to see everyone embracing the excitement, celebrating our local team, and sharing in the fun together. Moments like these help foster a sense of belonging, community pride, and connection as we come together to support the Southland Stags.

Old MacDonald's Farm Week 🌾
What a week of fun, learning, and adventure! Our tamariki transformed into little farmers as they adopted chicks, shared their exciting chick adventures, decorated coops, and even tried milking a cow! 🥛🐄
The week ended with a special Old MacDonald's Farm Graduation, where our tamariki proudly received their Little Chick Hero Award 🐥🏅 and Official Junior Farmer Award 🚜🏅 in recognition of their kindness, responsibility, and enthusiasm throughout our farm adventures.
A huge thank you to our wonderful whānau for supporting our Adopt-a-Chick Adventure and helping create such meaningful memories.

🚦BEEP BEEP! MOVE OVER — Te Rūma Pihi took over Transport World last week! 🚛✨

With roaring trucks, shiny vintage cars, giant machinery, and quirky collections around every corner, our tamariki were in absolute awe from start to finish! 🚗⚙️🚜

There were busy little minds, endless excitement, and loads of “WOWWWW!” moments as we explored, discovered, and adventured our way through the incredible exhibits together. 👀✨

Safe to say… we may have some future truck drivers, mechanics, and collectors in our midst! 😄

On Friday last week we dressed up in Pink in support of Pink Shirt day. Pink Shirt day is about reducing bullying and celebrating diversity in all its forms.

It was great to see everyone dressed up and enjoying spending time with their friends and Kaiako.Our fantastic chef Nicola even whipped us up some delicious Pink cupcakes for morning tea which were a big hit 🧁

Yesterday our kaiako took to the track, walking for 12 hours in support of Relay for Life. Our team created a maimai-themed tent, which proudly won Best Themed Site, earning us a trophy and a voucher from Mitre 10.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello or joined us for a lap or two around the track – your support meant so much. And a big congratulations to our amazing kaiako, who are enjoying a well-deserved rest day today after their incredible effort.

We are incredibly grateful for the amazing support from our community during our Bake Sale and Sports Day fundraiser for the Cancer Society. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, enthusiasm, and participation, we raised a fantastic $803.10, which will go towards our fundraising efforts for the Cancer Society Relay for Life.
