We had an awesome day celebrating our Heart Red Day recently. Although Mr. Hearty was away we were delighted to welcome the Heart Fairy to Montessori! She heard about all the great things that we are doing to take care of our bodies and how we live out our Healthy Heart Gold Award every day.
We have been introducing some new nutritious foods for our morning kai and seeing many tamariki enjoy tasting these. We just had to celebrate how awesome we are with a trip to the Blueberry Farm where we got to pick and eat lots of blueberries 😋

Celebrating Matariki at Windsor Montessori is always a very special event. There is a great build up with lots of learning where our tamariki learn all the names of the Matariki stars and how each whētu/star is connected with our natural environment. We continued the tradition of making soup where our whānau provided a vegetable and our tamariki contributed with grating these until we had enough to put in the crockpot. They especially loved making special whetū stars biscuits. We had a wonderful evening with all our whānau, sharing yummy kai, having great conversations and sharing lots of laughter! It even stopped raining so that we could go outside with our torches and watch the stars. Our tamariki got to perform their kapa haka with all their whānau and performed this so well as this is something they do everyday at Montessori. What a fantastic evening we had. Thank you to all our wonderful whānau, tamariki and kaiako for making this such a special occasion.

We are delighted to announce that we have recently received our Pā-harakeke Gold Healthy Heart Award. After receiving our Rito Bronze award two years ago, we decided to skip silver and go for gold! We had a great morning celebrating this award with our tamariki and kaiako. Yvette from the Heart Foundation presented this award to us and brought along her friend Mr. Hearty. This was a big hit with everyone as we got to give Mr. Hearty a hand shake, high five and a hug!
It has been incredibly rewarding to see the changes that have unfolded for all our tamariki. We are passionate about supporting whānau to learn about the importance nutrition plays in their child’s development. We naturally embed physical movement and learning around nutrition into our curriculum through a wide variety of fun and interactive learning experiences. We believe that when tamariki learn about the importance food plays in their overall health and well being in their early years and develop healthy habits around food and exercise, then the foundations will be laid to support them in making positive decisions around their own health as they grow.

We love inviting members of our community into our preschool to share their knowledge with our tamariki. Recently, we welcomed Katie, a Community Police Officer, to come and talk to our tamariki about how to keep safe when travelling in a car and when going for a walk to the park with their friends from preschool. She also talked about the different jobs that a police officer does and showed us all the different items she was wearing on her high-vis vest which weighed a whopping 12 kg! Everyone was very interested in Katie’s handcuffs, so naturally there were a lot of volunteers who were keen to try them on! That certainly got us all smiling!
We also welcomed Tracey, a dental hygienist, who talked to our tamariki about how to brush their teeth properly, and what foods and drinks are really good for keeping our teeth healthy! Lots of great learning happening at Montessori!

What a fantastic time we had visiting Devon's place this week! His whānau had extended a lovely invite for us to visit their place after Devon left preschool. There was a lot of excitement leading up to this special trip as we were all super excited to reconnect with Devon again. Going on a big bus is always exciting especially as some of our tamariki had not been on a bus before! The moment we stepped off the bus, Devon and his dad were there to greet us. It was so heart-warming to see our tamariki rush forward to give Devon a big hug. Actions speak louder than words!! After we had eaten some fruit and our freshly baked muffins that our tamariki had baked the day before, everyone went into the garden to pick a carrot from Devon's vegetable garden to take home. This was followed by visiting Devon's amazing tree house, running around his big garden playing football, going on a stick hunt, and breaking up ice bowls that Devon and his mum had created with flowers and leaves inside. We even got to see Devon's amazing dead bug collection!!! A big thank you to Devon and his whānau for opening up their home to us. 🙂

We were super excited to recently have another occasion to celebrate with our tamariki at Montessori. This month is the Heart Foundation Big Heart Appeal so we decided to partner with them to promote this special occasion. We are already on a journey towards getting our Pā Harakeke Tohu Manawa Ora | Healthy Heart Award so are tamariki are becoming very knowledgable about how to take care of themselves and what this looks like for them everyday. We had a wonderful day coming to preschool dressed in red, eating a super nutritious morning kai and trying out some very cool zumba moves! Our tamariki love to harvest herbs and vegetables from our garden, prepare these and incorporate them into our baking that we do every day. We are super proud of them.

A big thank you to Penny Simmonds MP who paid us a visit this week at preschool. She was very gracious with her time and we so enjoyed showing her around the preschool and sharing what we do that makes us so uniquely special. Penny took a genuine interest in the children and gave us great feedback. Thank you Penny ☺️
