Taiwhanga

Taiwhanga Te Waananga o Aotearoa ki Raahui Pookeka Te Kura Toi Taiwhanga has offered raranga, whakairo and visual arts to the community since the year 2000.

These three programs form the basis of Te Kura Toi for the campus. In 2002 the three whenu were spread over three sites making it difficult for the individual programmes to function as a faculty. It was time to bring them back together under one roof. Taiwhanga was official opened Wednesday 4 February in 2004. The name 'Te Kura Toi Taiwhanga' was gifted by matua Kereti Rautangata meaning;

Kura -

university of lore, university of learning as lied by our tuupuna

Toi - Toi te kupu, toi te mana, permanence of understanding and integrity

Taiwhanga - a bay, a palisade, a paa. Be they friend or foe they bring with them knowledge
