To create music you need to learn to really listen
To create art you need to learn to really look
To act you need to learn to express emotion
To write you need to learn to become one with your characters
To dance you need to become one with your body and sound
To build you need to become spatially aware

All these arts also require - imagination, exploration, to become one with the material/the tools, to play, have confidence, focus, a letting go, discipline, a touch of madness and chaos, a silence, a connection to self and the inner soul. 🙏

We are delighted to announce Judy Darragh as Guest Judge of the National Secondary School Art Awards 2026.

Now in its 14th year, the Awards invite Year 11–13 students from across Aotearoa New Zealand to submit one original artwork for the opportunity to exhibit at The Arts House Trust, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, and compete for a prize pool of more than $6,500. Shortlisted works will be judged by The Arts House Trust curatorial team, joined this year by Judy Darragh.

Currently represented by Two Rooms (Auckland) and Jonathan Smart Gallery (Christchurch), Darragh’s work is known for brightly coloured sculptural assemblages of found objects, recycled items, industrial materials, collages, photography, video, and poster art. Her practice displays a fondness for everyday objects that is witty and provocative.

She, with Imogen Taylor, co-editor of Femisphere Zine, a publication supporting women’s art practices in Aotearoa, and she is a member of Arts Makers Aotearoa, an advocacy group for the visual arts. Darragh continues to exhibit extensively throughout Aotearoa, New Zealand, and her works are held in numerous public collections in Aotearoa.

Having taught art at secondary and tertiary levels for more than 40 years and mentored young artists throughout Aotearoa, Darragh is the ideal guest judge for the National Secondary School Art Awards.

The Arts House Trust Director, Anita Tótha, comments: “We're beyond honoured to welcome Judy as this year’s guest judge. Her remarkable career as an artist and art teacher, along with her longstanding commitment to supporting young artists, brings a valuable layer of insight and inspiration, enriching the experience for all participating students.”

Learning drawing skills helps with focus, patience, determination, spacial awareness, eye/hand coordination, imagination, planning, structure, the list goes on. So send me (Megan) a text and we can arrange a time to meet before your classes start.

Hi everyone,
I have just finished designing a couple of 2026 wall calendars for my art school. They have my students lovely artworks on each month. You may like one or more for Xmas presents or for your office? They are $25.00 each.

I am trying to raise a bit of money for a large set of Faber Castell Pitt Pastel pencils for my classroom, for the students to use.

I will be ordering tomorrow so if you can, let me know as as possible if you would like one or more. I will need payment before I order. So direct message me and I will give you my account details.
I can order again at a later date, but not sure of the price?

Cheers
Megan Murphy
