Hororata Primary School is a small contributing school catering for students in Years 1 to 6 in rural Canterbury.

It is sited in attractive, well-developed grounds. The school roll reflects the growth of the population in this area and the quality of the education the school provides. High quality community relationships are a feature of the school. The support provided by an enthusiastic Parent Teacher Association (PTA) reflects the high level of community involvement and the importance the Board, Principal

and Staff place on community consultation. Both the PTA and the Board provide extensive resources and equipment to enhance student learning and achievement. Students receive a good quality education from dedicated and knowledgeable teachers. All classrooms are well-organised and stimulating learning environments. We're reaching out to our amazing local farming community for a little helping hand this spring! 🌱

Keeping our children safe online is more important than ever. We invite all parents and caregivers to join us for an informative Digital Safety Session here at Hororata Primary School Thursday 2nd July at 6pm.

Whether your child is just starting to use devices or is already spending time online, this session will provide valuable information for the whole family.

COMMUNITY NOTICE - Regarding the Fire Alarm at Hororata Primary School activated Thursday Afternoon (18/06/2026). We would like to inform the community we are all well and in great hands, this was a small lighting issue that triggered the alarm. We appreciate your concern and understanding. Thank you to the Fire Brigade for responding and ensuring our safety.

Save the Date - PTA Working Bee...Many hands make light work 🐝

An excellent end-of-year prize giving evening was held last evening. Congratulations to Mr G on his organising skills. The evening started with an International Dinner, with food supplied by the 16 nationalities attending the school. Most enjoyable. This was organised by Alice Wright.
Then the country items, e.g. Phillipines, India, Wales and more!
The prize giving ceremony broken into two parts wth the Active Culture leading the way.
Well done to all the children.
Marty (Mr G) presented Miss B (Rachel) with a beautiful bunch of flowers as she has completed her two years of teaching and is now a qualified teacher.. Miss Baynes (Ruby) has one year to go.
He also touched on the teaching staff and their wonderful abilities.
As it was the final year for Pippa T (a member of the Thwaites family) Mr G had reserved two VIP seats for the grandparents, Tony and Prue. The Thwaites family, like the Olivers, are taking a hiatus from having children at the school just now. I also received a magnificent floral tribute.
Both families have had six generations attending the school.

After nearly three years of dreaming, planning, and designing, our school’s nature path is finally a reality! 🌿

With incredible support from Synlait crew Sarah and Nicky Halley plus help from Ingrid and our amazing parent volunteers the Kākāpo kids planted around 100 native plants today — creating a space where birds and insects can thrive. 💚

We’ve also started upgrading our garden — and the tunnel house is next! Exciting times ahead as our nature path and gardens continue to grow! 🌱✨

In the process the old tractor tyres are looking for a new home so if you can put one to use...maybe a good old fashioned back yard sandpit let us know!
