Tena koutou katoa! Greetings to you all!
The end of the year is upon us. Just a reminder of some important dates.
23.12.20 – This is the last day of the preschool year. We close our doors at 5pm this day and farewell you at your usual home time.
13.01.21 – This is the first day of the new year and we will say things like “How time’s flown,” and ‘Haven’t you grown,” (The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson). This will all be true as children seem to do the most growing over the Christmas holidays.
Lost Property
We have a bit of a lost property problem. Many of our clothes from the bathroom, our emergency supplies, seem to be missing. If you have clothes at your home with HPELC or Harper Park written on them we would be very pleased to have them back.
Our hat basket is missing 80% of our hats. We use these hats on those days when you forget to bring your own, because of this old school rule no hat – no play. If you find any hats at your home with HPELC, Harper Park, Property of Harper Park, or Borrowed from Harper Park we really do need these back. If we don’t have sunhats and your children don’t bring sunhats, then everyone has to stay inside.
The mountain of lost property in the foyer grows constantly. Please check this mountain for your own missing things as this will be donated to a second-hand shop in town if not claimed by the end of the year.
Car Park Safety
We had a near miss in the car park when someone slipped away from their family near the driveway entrance with oncoming traffic. This frightened the life out of all involved. The car park is a very busy place during peek drop off and pick up times. Please take care as a pedestrian and as a vehicle driver and watch out for both.
Enviroschools
This year has been our first year being part of Enviroschools and we have enjoyed the support of Zoe Watson, our Enviroschools co-ordinator. We have also enjoyed being able to connect with Kidsfirst Hokitika and Karoro and see what projects they have been working on.
Our big focus this year has been coming up with a plan for developing our outdoor environment and we are very grateful to Gillian Belton for drawing up our plan and for all the ideas from tamariki and whānau.
Our vegetable beds are growing, and the bike track has been extended. Now we are looking forward to planting trees etc. If this your thing we would love some help!
We have also been learning about what’s rubbish and what can be recycled. We would like to say a big thank you to all of you who do such a good job of making lunches that are waste free and all the creative ways you have of doing this. We really appreciate your effort and we have noticed a reduction in waste at meal times.
