On Wednesdays we love working in the gardens.

This week tamariki from rūma Kōwhai came to visit and joined rūma Rātā and rūma Rimu in beginning the planting of our garden area.

We're really enjoying the opportunities for tuakana teina relationships and team work and we can't wait to nurture our produce!

"Wear yellow to support Daffodil day!"
We sure did understand the assignment, a day full of yellow, smiles and thoughtfulness.
We're proud to pass on some donations to the Cancer Society West Coast this morning.

🌿 Learning Through culture and play 🌿

Our new whare is providing beautiful opportunities for tamariki to connect to culture through their play.

As tamariki explore, create, imagine and learn with this special resource they are developing connection to culture and their experiences. Our whare encourages curiosity, creativity and meaningful learning while supporting tamariki to connect to their place.

Through play, tamariki are building knowledge, confidence and a sense of identity, connecting to the stories of their land.

We love seeing our tamariki embracing opportunities to explore, and make their whare their own.

Have you been in to see our friends at New World Hokitika recently?
Next time you pop by for preschool lunch essentials, be sure to check out the beautiful artwork hanging in the windows created by our tamariki to support Daffodil day and Cancer Society Southern.
We’re collecting donations in centre all of this week, right up until our yellow dress up day on Friday!

Spring is just around the corner, and with the sunshine this week we took the opportunity to prepare the garden beds for planting.

Tamariki learnt about the difference between plants and weeds, and checked out the worms living in our compost bin.
The gardens are looking fresh and we can't wait to start growing some vegetables.

As we spend time exploring feelings in Ruma Rimu, we’ve introduced a hui time visual prop.
With the use of an expanding ball, tamariki take a deep breath and get an opportunity to chat with their peers about how they’re feeling.
Through building awareness of our own and others feelings, we are able to develop key skills including resilience and empathy as well as assisting in growing emotional regulation skills.

The sun is shinning and the days are warming up so we're taking every opportunity we can to soak up some sunshine.
Tamariki in Ruma Rimu and Ruma Rātā enjoyed a morning picnic outside, the calm warm air filled with chatter and laughter as tamariki connected and embraced the sunshine 🌞
