🎨 Art is more than just a fun activity! For children aged 3–5, it can be a powerful outlet for creativity, self-expression and big feelings. 💭
Through painting, drawing, sculpting and creating, tamariki can explore their ideas, express emotions and discover that there is no right or wrong way to create. 🌈✨ At this age, the process is often far more important than the finished product!

Our tamariki love getting hands-on with carpentry, where they can explore their creativity, develop problem-solving skills, and bring their ideas to life. Through measuring, designing, building, and experimenting, children are developing confidence, persistence, and a sense of achievement.
Carpentry also provides wonderful opportunities to support early school readiness skills, including strengthening fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and the muscles needed for writing. Using tools, making marks, planning designs, and practising control all help to build the foundations needed for future writing and learning.
We love watching our tamariki take on challenges, share ideas, and learn through meaningful, hands-on experiences. 💛✨

Every day at kindy is filled with meaningful opportunities for our tamariki to learn, grow, connect, and explore. From our morning sign-in table where children develop early literacy skills, to the freedom and creativity of free play, intentional teacher-led experiences, and engaging mat times — every part of our day is thoughtfully planned to support each child’s development.
Through these experiences, our tamariki are also developing important skills that support their transition to school. From strengthening fine motor skills through playdough, painting, drawing, and hands-on activities, to building confidence, independence, communication, problem-solving, and social skills through play and group experiences, children are constantly learning and preparing for their next steps.

At the heart of everything we do is our Christian philosophy. We strive to create an environment where children feel loved, valued, respected, and cared for. Through our interactions, learning experiences, and relationships, we encourage kindness, compassion, gratitude, and a sense of belonging as we support children to grow in their own unique ways. 💛✨

We are so excited to welcome back Sarah from maternity leave! It is so special to have you back as part of our Royals whānau, and we can’t wait to see the care, passion, and joy you bring back into our environment.
Sarah will be joining our Big Royals team three days a week, supporting our tamariki as they learn, grow, and prepare for their next steps.

Today we become little scientist as we explored the magic of colour mixing! The children loved experimenting with different colours, making predictions and watching new colour appear right before their eyes. Beginning with coloured dye in spray bottles and later extending the experience with pint, this open ended activity encouraged curiosity, creativity, and hands on learning through play.
Benefits of this activity:
✨Strengthened fine motor skills and hand muscle through squeezing the spray bottles
✨Developed hand eye coordination and control
✨Explore early science concepts through experimenting, observing and discovering how colours change when mixed.
✨Fostered creativity and self expression through open ended exploration
✨Built confidence and independence as children made their own choices and discoveries

🎨 Why are arts and crafts so important for young children?
Arts and crafts are about so much more than creating something pretty to take home. Every time a child paints, cuts, glues, draws, or creates, they're building skills they'll use for years to come.
✨ Through creative experiences, children are developing:

• 🌈 Creativity and imagination as they explore new ideas.
• 💭 Problem-solving skills by making choices, experimenting, and finding solutions.

At Royals, we value the process just as much as the finished masterpiece. It's in the painting, cutting, gluing, experimenting, and creating that some of the most meaningful learning takes place.
