Water play in the sandpit isn’t just fun – it’s rich learning too! When tamariki explore with sand and water, they’re developing problem-solving skills, experimenting with cause and effect, strengthening fine motor skills, and working together with their peers.
In Te Whāriki (2017), the Early Childhood Curriculum, water play supports strands such as Exploration – Mana Aotūroa, where children learn through active exploration of their environment, and Contribution – Mana Tangata, as they negotiate, collaborate, and share ideas.
