We have some exciting changes happening at HNCK! From Monday 12 October 2026 we will be increasing our kindergarten session times.

Our new session hours will be:

8:15am – 2:45pm

We are also proud to continue offering ZERO fees at our kindergarten as part of our commitment to providing quality early childhood education for our community.

We look forward to welcoming our tamariki for these extended session times and continuing to provide a nurturing environment where they can learn and grow! 💚

Recently, we have been enjoying some excursions to our local library! We are very grateful for our parent helpers who have joined us on these trips and supported the tamariki throughout our visits.

During our time at the library we have explored a variety of books (pukapuka), sharing stories, doing puzzles and enjoying reading alongside our parent helpers and kaiako. On one of our recent visits we took out some books about water to support the learning that is currently happening back at kindergarten around water conservation and where our water comes from.

Does your child have a library card? If not, you can head down to your local library and sign up for free. Books are a great way to support language and literacy learning.

WEDNESDAY WAFFLE DAY 🧇
At HNCK we really enjoy baking with the tamariki! Yesterday, we made delicious chocolate chip waffles at kindergarten and it was so much fun. We all took turns adding ingredients to the bowl while talking about how many spoons and cups we needed and counting together. We talked about each ingredient needed to make the waffle mixture before giving it a big mix! Once our mixture was ready we plugged in the waffle machines and waited for them to heat up. A big thank you to our lovely families who brought in their waffle machines so we could enjoy this experience together. We watched the lights change from on to off as we put the mixture into each machine so we knew when our waffles were cooked. Our kindergarten smelled delicious all morning! I wonder what we will make next?

Mānawatia a Matariki ✨

We hope you have all had a lovely Matariki weekend with your whānau, filled with connection, celebration, and special moments together.

We have been celebrating Matariki through a range of experiences. The kaiako created a beautiful Matariki space for the tamariki to explore, and the tamariki have enjoyed taking part in Matariki arts and crafts while learning about each of the Matariki stars and their significance through pūrākau and shared discussions.

We also held a special Matariki whānau evening, where families shared a dish representing their culture. The tamariki performed a couple of songs, making it a special evening of shared kai, celebration, and connection.

Today kaiako Mike set up our ripper rugby set. This is a huge hit with the tamariki! This experience extends the interests of some tamariki and strengthened the connection between kindergarten and home as several tamariki already play ripper rugby or have siblings who do.

This game provided opportunities for tamariki to develop teamwork, communication, listening skills, and the ability to follow instructions while working with and alongside one another. The tamariki had such a fun time.
