At the end of Term 3, we encourage girls to gather up winter uniform that is outgrown and in good condition for resale at the PFA Second Hand Uniform Shop. It's also a good time to check whether the summer uniform still fits!

The PFA Second Hand Uniform Shop is a great option for additional uniform pieces at affordable prices. Currently the Shop is keen to receive more summer uniforms, especially summer shirts, skirts, Panama hats, ties, jumpers and blazers for new students starting in 2027.

Earlier this week, all students gathered in The Blyth for a special Q&A session with New Zealand's most decorated Paralympian, Dame Sophie Pascoe.

Sophie has partnered with Westpac NZ to create the 'Dare to Dream' programme, helping young people around the country embrace their own differences and reach for the stars.

Sophie answered thoughtful questions from the students about how she overcame adversity, accepted who she is and found what motivated her to become a successful athlete.

Thank you to Sophie for so generously giving up her time and to our chairs of the event, Year 13 students Stella Rust and Hana Pearse who did an excellent job up on stage.

Last week, our Year 10 & 11 Performing Arts students had the amazing opportunity to learn directly from guest industry professional Xavier McKinnon (Wicked U.S. Tour, NYC revival of Heathers) during an exclusive workshop at The Blyth Performing Arts Centre 🎭

Students enjoyed a live performance by Xavier, asked burning questions about the industry during a Q&A, and watched their peers receive direct, one-on-one live coaching on stage.

Huge congratulations to all the students who stepped up to perform, and a big thank you to our Performing Arts Department for making this experience happen 🙏

Congratulations to Year 8 student, Isla Hart on some impressive results at the Hawke's Bay Poverty Bay Swimming Winter Championships.

Isla received gold in the 200m breaststroke (setting a club record!), 100m IM and 100m breaststroke and silver in the 50m breaststroke and 200m backstroke with personal best times in every event! 🥇🥈

🎭 Iona Shines at Youthfest! 🎭

On Saturday, 15 August, Woodford House Hall hosted the second annual Youthfest, a vibrant new theatre festival celebrating young talent and voices across Aotearoa.

Iona College entered two pieces this year:
✨ The Last Day by Angie Farrow – Directed by Soraya Riddell & Rose Lundberg. Performed by Ashlee Nicolle, Claire Smith, Milla Rudd, & Melanie Marvin-Orsborn.

✨ I Think We Need to Have Another Meeting by Lindsey Brown – Directed by Zara Jensen. Performed by Brooke Gold, Summer Xu, Leah Loetscher, Lucy Jerebine, & Isabelle Nelson.

Huge thanks to Laura Daly & Charli D’Ath for running light and sound support 💡🔊

🏆 Special Recognition:
• The Last Day earned two 'Beautiful Moment' awards. One for its ending sequence and one for the team’s professionalism.

• Summer Xu was awarded Merit in Acting 🌟

Beyond the awards, events like Youthfest build confidence, teamwork, and a passion for the arts. Massive congratulations to all students involved for their hard work!

On Sunday 9 August, all Year 12 Business Studies students took part in the Hawke's Bay Farmers' Market, representing 11 different student businesses.

Despite the freezing early-morning conditions, students arrived by 7.00am to set up their stalls and were ready to begin selling to the public at 8.00am.

The students did an incredible job representing Iona College. They demonstrated confidence and professionalism while engaging with customers, promoting their products and making sales throughout the morning. All of our student businesses achieved great sales and gained valuable experience.

The Farmers' Market allowed students to put their classroom learning into practice. From marketing and customer service through to sales, communication and managing their businesses under genuine market conditions. It was wonderful to see their hard work come together and to see the students rise to the challenge so positively.

It has been a busy week for the Performing Arts Department including two big days of competition at Dance NZ Made. Our dancers have achieved some incredible results, and we are so proud of everything they have accomplished.

After two terms of early mornings, rehearsals and a huge amount of hard work, these students have represented Iona incredibly well. It has been wonderful to see their commitment and teamwork come together on stage, and they should all be extremely proud of what they have achieved.

Congratulations to all of our dancers, to Iona Dance Teacher, Sophie Follett and to all of those who have supported the students throughout the journey (especially those who helped out with the early morning rehearsals!)

We are so proud of the way the students have represented Iona and can’t wait to see them take the stage again at Nationals ✨
