The Government is currently reviewing how early childhood education is funded in New Zealand. As part of this process, Heretaunga Kindergartens is preparing a submission, and we'd love to hear directly from our whānau.

By completing our short survey, you'll help us advocate for the things that matter most, including high-quality kindergarten education, 100% qualified kaiako, and positive outcomes for tamariki, whānau and our communities.

A trip to our newly built Woolworths was on the cards for our hīkoi on Friday!

Nothing beats getting out of the kindy to explore our local community. Today, we picked up a few groceries, said mōrena to all the lovely smiley faces along the way, enjoyed a cracker and biscuit in the park, and visited Te Taiwhenua to admire their wonderful Matariki mahi toi.

Being able to provide these rich learning experiences for our tamariki is something we take great pride in at Peterhead Kindergarten. These opportunities allow us to support tamariki to develop their road safety awareness, build confidence in community spaces, strengthen their social and communication skills, and foster a sense of belonging within the place they call home.

There is so much learning that happens beyond the kindergarten gate.

Mānawatia a Matariki! ✨
Over this years Matariki period, Peterhead Kindergarten has embraced this special time to pause, reflect, connect, and look ahead with such beautiful intention!
Together, we have explored pūrākau of the Matariki and celebrated what it means to us through waiata, mahi toi and shared whakaaro.

With kotahitanga as our focus, we have collectively set our intentions for the year ahead.
We have gathered together to share kai, which totally just filled our space with such aroha 🤍

We nurtured our māra with new planting, blessing it with karakia strengthening our connection with Tupuarangi ✨

Ngā mihinui to everyone who contributed to creating the richness of this celebration!!

He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.

We have been lucky enough to receive a grant through Enviroschools to invest in our māra, and we chose to use this opportunity to create a space that our whānau and kindergarten community can come and enjoy — a place to sit, connect, pull a w**d, or even take a vegetable home.

What fantastic kaitiaki we have! Throughout this process, we have been able to discuss planting seasons, learn about the Maramataka, and explore the important role we all play in caring for our environment.

It has been wonderful to see our tamariki taking ownership of the space and working together to bring new life to our garden. We are incredibly proud of the effort that has gone into reviving our māra over the past few weeks.

What a special place to be, and we can't wait to watch it flourish in the months ahead.

🌺 Happy Samoan Language Week! 🇼🇸
This week we celebrate the beauty, strength, and richness of the Samoan language and culture. At kindy, we are embracing opportunities to learn new words, sing songs, and explore the traditions that make Samoan culture so special.
Language is a taonga that connects us to our identity, our families, and our communities. Through our learning experiences, tamariki are developing an appreciation for diversity and gaining an understanding of the many cultures that make Aotearoa such a vibrant place to live.
Fa'afetai tele lava to our Samoan whānau and Flaxmere Primary whānau for sharing your language, knowledge, and culture with us, our tamariki enjoyed your performance earlier this week.
