Today we welcomed the boys from Lindisfarne College for another visit. This has become a regular part of our programme over the past couple of years, and our tamariki always look forward to it.
Our tamariki enjoy showing the "big boys" around our kōhungahunga and spending time playing, reading pukapuka and sharing kōrero together. The boys show amazing patience, are respectful and are happy to get involved.
These visits are a great opportunity for our tamariki to build confidence, develop social skills and create positive connections with older students, while the boys demonstrate leadership, manaaki and responsibility.

This year we celebrated Matariki a little differently due to a topsy-turvy term. We started the day with a Matariki pyjama breakfast. The tamariki enjoyed spaghetti, fruit, cereal and toast topped of with a warm milo.

Today as a special treat kaiako decided to light the fire pit so tamariki could roast marshmallows and have milo. The tamariki enjoyed the experience and shared stories about camping and fires. This experience provides opportunities for tamariki to learn through real-life experiences while developing respect for fire safety.

We are so blessed to have our Kura right next door. We were invited to celebrate Samoan Language Week with them. Some tamariki came over on Tuesday to sing for us and we enjoyed joining in with their Mili Mili. We didn’t quite make the flag raising ceremony but enjoyed spending time in the new entrance class. Then yesterday we went to the hall to watch Hastings Girls High perform which was amazing.

Today we all dressed in pink to speak up, stand together and stop bullying; Kōrero ake, tū ngātahi, aukatia te whakaweti. At mat time we talked about mindfulness that Judy Hunter shared with us, To be kind to your peers and be respectful. The tamariki also created lots of artwork in pink.

Taha Tinana - With winter on its way and all the bugs starting to visit we were lucky enough to have a visit from Nurse VaeVae today. She showed the tamariki the correct way to blow their noses, catch their coughs and wash their hands while singing a song. This is helping them to learn healthy habits to keep themselves and others safe and well.

Today, one or our tamariki brought in a branch from his swan plant covered in chrysalis, which was a wonderful learning opportunity. The tamariki were inquisitive and contributed their ideas about the various stages of development from caterpillar to butterfly.
It was also a perfect opportunity to talk about the importance of caring for the living world- respecting and caring for insects and learning about our role as kaitiaki of the environment.
