Our centre provides educational care for up to 35 children, including up to 5 under two year olds. We are a licensed, mixed age centre operating from

7.45am - 5.15pm. Our children interact together in the same environment and have many opportunities to develop at their own pace. We have very flexible hours and children can attend full time, part time or as casual care. Waiapu Kids St Matthews offers high quality early childhood education by having higher adult to child ratios than the Ministry of Education require and all full time teachers are qualified and registered. We have been working hard creating Matariki stars and decorations for our Matariki Celebration tomorrow night. We have been practicing our Matariki songs for our performance. The children have loved the variety of Matariki stories and we hear Matariki related words integrated into their play. Tomorrow the children and teachers will be preparing pumpkin to make a huge pot of pumpkin soup. Trina and Sandie will be busy making fry bread as well.
We hope to see you tomorrow night from 5.30-6.30. The children are really excited to share their learning with you all. Happy Matariki Everyone.

What has been happening in the past month? We have been learning about the meaning of Easter, the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus was crucified on a Friday (Good Friday) and rose again three days later on Easter Sunday. We also had an Easter egg hunt and easter bunny facepaint. We have been learning about and practicing 'The Fruits of the Spirit' - These outward signs of the Holy Spirit are called “fruit” because fruit is only produced in a healthy, living plant. As you grow in the Spirit, others should see the fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. We have been focusing on Kindness, Patience, Love and Gentleness. We welcome all of the new families that have joined our little whanau during the past month. We celebrated Mothers Day with hand made cards and painted rocks. The children have been really interested in finding insects and bugs in the outdoor environment and exploring them through magnify glasses and researching on the iPad. The children have really been enjoying the new rope swing that Trina donated to the centre.

Can you help us whanau? Instead of recycling your assorted boxes, the children would love these for construction building and art experiences, especially your egg cartons, these make great caterpillars. Any boxes such as; packet food boxes, toothpaste boxes, tissue boxes, cardboard rolls (no toilet rolls) etc.

Do any of our families/whanau have any untreated off cuts of wood that the children can use in the carpentry area please?

What a busy month we have had. We would like to welcome the new families that have joined us and welcome back the families that have been on holiday and returned. We celebrated with some children for their birthdays. We have been going to church and have started learning about all the good things Jesus did and does for everyone. This is a lead up to Easter, where we we learn about how Jesus died on the cross for us. Lots of rough and tumble with PJ Mask being a huge part of the boys play at present. Water is still a favourite on the hot sunny days.

We shared stories and photos, tears and laughter as we looked back at Hope's 4 years of being with us. Hope, Mum and Dad have been a huge part of our centre life and we are extremely grateful to have been a part of their lives as well. We wish you all the best Hope. Happy School Days our Friend 🥰
