There is still time to nominate!

With our 2026 Sports Prizegiving approaching, we are calling on students and whānau to help us ensure that the outstanding sporting achievements of our students are recognised and celebrated.

We are particularly keen to hear about students who have represented or achieved in sport outside of school including at club, regional, provincial, national or international level. While we are aware of many of the successes achieved through school sport, we know that a number of our students are also competing and excelling beyond the school environment.

The information provided through this form helps us build a complete picture of each student’s sporting achievements across the year. These achievements are considered as part of our Sports Prizegiving awards and the selection of our premier sporting honours, including the Top Sportswoman Cup, which is presented at Senior Prizegiving.

If your daughter, granddaughter, niece or young person in your care has achieved significant sporting success during 2026, please complete the form below so we can ensure her achievements are considered.

Last Thursday evening, our school hall came alive for our annual Performing Arts Showcase, celebrating the phenomenal talent and creativity of our Year 9 to 13 students!

From electrifying dance routines and powerful drama performances to moving choir pieces, uplifting Te Ao Haka, and brilliant instrumental and vocal solos, our Performing Arts Department students completely blew us away. Every single performance highlighted the passion, courage, and immense talent we are so lucky to have within our school community.

A massive THANK YOU to all the whānau, friends, and supporters who filled the room and cheered on our performers! The energy in the room was unmatched, and seeing our students cheer each other on throughout the night truly showcased the heart and supportive culture of our school.

We couldn't be prouder of everyone who took to the stage or worked behind the scenes to make the night such a success. Ka rawe, everyone!

Last Friday, a large group of Hastings Girls’ High School Music and Drama students had the opportunity to experience opera firsthand, attending a dress rehearsal of The Marriage of Figaro at Toitoi – Hawke’s Bay Arts & Events Centre.

Presented by National Youth Opera Aotearoa (NYOA), the performance brought together students from schools across Hawke’s Bay for a special introduction to the world of opera. NYOA supports the development of New Zealand’s emerging opera talent, providing vocal and instrumental training for young performers aged 16 to 25. Throughout the year, participants work alongside industry professionals before coming together to stage a full-scale opera production.

For many of our students, this was their first experience of live opera, making the visit particularly special. With fantastic front-and-centre seats, the girls had an incredible view not only of the performers on stage but also of the orchestra pit, giving them a unique insight into how the different elements of music, drama, performance and production come together.

It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to see young New Zealand performers pursuing their passion at such a high level and to appreciate the extraordinary skill, discipline and collaboration involved in bringing a production of this scale to the stage.

A huge thank you to NYOA for making this experience available to our students. Opportunities such as this are an important part of extending learning beyond the classroom and inspiring our young musicians and performers through outstanding live theatre and music.

This week we were thrilled to welcome back our school Community Officer, Senior Constable Chris Leppien, to run another round of our learner driver licensing programme.

With this second cohort wrapped up, a massive 46 students have now successfully passed their learner's test this year!

Not having a driver license is a huge barrier to employment which is why we urge all our students to get started early. Our goal? Aiming for every student to leave school with at least their restricted license in hand!

A massive thank you to Senior Constable Chris for her dedication in training our students and getting them down to VTNZ for their tests. We couldn't do it without you!

This week our Gateway students successfully completed a comprehensive Foundation First Aid Training course.

During the one-day workshop, students earned two key unit standards: Provide First Aid and Basic Life Support.

The hands-on session covered essential emergency responses, including managing burns, fractures, soft tissue injuries, poisoning, heart attacks, strokes, asthma, diabetic emergencies, and seizures.

Students also mastered crucial basic life support skills, such as performing scene assessments, placing individuals in the recovery position, administering CPR, operating an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), responding to choking, and managing shock and bleeding.

A huge thank you to Mahnoor from LifeCare for sharing her time, expertise, and support to deliver this practical and valuable training to our students!

Last Thursday, six of our talented badminton players headed to Taradale to represent Hastings Girls' High School at the Hawke’s Bay Regional Badminton Tournament. Competing across both the Singles and Doubles categories, our team went head-to-head with the very best players in the region, delivering outstanding skill, grit, and sportsmanship on the court!

REGIONAL CHAMPIONS!
A massive shoutout to Jo and Micah, who dominated the court to win the A Grade Doubles Competition and take home the title of Top Doubles Pair in Hawke’s Bay! This incredible result is a true reflection of their dedication, hard work, and relentless effort all season long. We could not be prouder!
