Our choir is helping to support a visiting choir from America.
The Oregon Chorale will present a concert in Waiapu Cathedral in Napier on Sunday 2 August at 4pm. The touring group features 20 singers, with Artistic Director Jason Sabino and accompanist Ryan DeHaven. The chorale last visited Napier some years ago and presented a well-received concert.
This time the Chorale will offer a range of music including works by contemporary composers, traditional songs by Monteverdi and Brahms, plus Kiwi classics such as Pōkarekare Ana and ‘Into the West’ a “Lord of the Rings” movie theme.
One special piece in this concert is ‘Imaginary Creatures’ by Andrea Ramsey. It will be narrated by Lilia Binkley-Sabato, the choir Director’s 9-year-old daughter. It features a fairy, mermaid, unicorn, imaginary friend and a dragon so will be enjoyed by younger music lovers.
The Waiapu Cathedral Choir will also present a short bracket of songs from their church choral and concert repertoire.
Entry is by koha, helping to make this an accessible concert for everyone to enjoy. Our thanks to the Linden Singers of Hawke’s Bay for helping to coordinate this concert for our visitors.
You can find out more about the choir and the concert on the Waiapu Cathedral website: https://napiercathedral.org.nz/ including the programme and notes on the Chorale and a poster.
Do go along and enjoy this treat – and bring a friend or two!
